i honestly don't even think that it's a big deal, it just happens when the car is really cold...then again i don't park the ls460 outside so i'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure they didn't. At the time of the recall the cars were still relatively new and not likely the belts would show signs of cracks.

 

It certainly shows my car was eligible. I'm not seeing anywhere that the recall was performed. Wonder if it's still covered?

 

I'm not saying this could be what this noise is, but these engines have an air pump that turns on when cold, that forces air into the exhaust system before the cats to prevent erroneous (rich) readings from the O2 sensors during what is called "closed loop" cold start. After 30 seconds or so, this pump stops and the noise goes away. If it's lasting for more than that, I'd take the car to a dealer and have them scan for codes related to the O2 sensors and/or emissions components. This is an ULEV car, has some wicked computer technology in it that was very advanced for 2007 (first model year of the LS-460) and has been carried over -- with minor tweaks -- throughout the years. BTW, this noise I'm talking about at cold starts, lasting for 30 seconds or so is totally normal (granted is cold but still above freezing - if it's really cold, it might last longer).

 

I don't think our engines have an air injector pump. The ULEV technology was featured fifteen years ago and it's pretty much the same kind of technology they use today on the LS except for the DI adding to the mix.
Toyota uses cam phasing and pre-catalytic converters to make this car ULEV. This was a departure from the exhaust recirculation methods and air pumps but I do believe other variants of this engine still use the secondary pump.
