So I am browsing autotrader/cars.com looking for a 2011 SWB AWD and it looks like practically none have air suspension. Is this typical? I know in 2011 the AVS was an option, but is it really the case that so few 2011 cars have it?

That matches my experience with the 2011s. Air Ride became an option on the 2011 AWDs for the first time, and many people seemed to prefer avoiding the Air Ride Suspension because of the potential for problems/costly repairs.

I purchased a CPO 2011 SWB AWD LS last April, and it did not have the Air Ride. I subsequently traded for an LS600hL with Air Ride. While the 600 does drive a bit nicer than the LS460, I was pretty happy with the ride on the non-Air Suspension 460. I tend to leave my 600 in "Comfort" mode (the softer/smoother the better in my book).

I don't think the lack of Air Ride should be a show-stopper if you find a 2011 you like for a good price.
