Default Air Suspension (or Other) Noise

My 2009 LS460 AWD with air suspension now, at 56,000 miles, has this noise frequently during driving and sometimes at idle. Like an air compressor for a few seconds. It's not loud, but you definitely hear the whine/air type noise. It's almost not even bothersome for me as I've gotten used to it. But when my wife or others are in the car they always ask "what is that"? Any ideas?

That sure sounds like the air compressor. The Cadillac I used to have was very noticeable, but I have NEVER heard the one in my LS kick in.

It looks to me, based on the info at www.alldata.com, that it's a pretty major pain in the tuckus to get to. My guess would be that an isolation bushing has failed and the pump is coming in contact with the bracket. Also the pump itself could be going bad. Also if you have a leak in any of the lines or "shocks" it will cycle much more than it normally would to attempt to keep everything level.

I am the OP. If it's any help, I even hear the noise for about 5 seconds about 30 seconds after shutting down the engine.

I hear a noise for a few seconds on mine when just parked in the garage.
I just assumed it was the fuel pump but you have me thinking about that

I think what you're hearing is the headlights.

Don't think so. I may not have been very clear. This is even if the car has been sitting for an hour. If I just happen to be in the garage at the time doing something else.

I doubt it's the headlights, but if I shut off the whatever-that-button-is, won't the noise go away if that's it?

Well, maybe it IS the headlights! I turned off the AFS switch and the noise SEEMS to be gone (although I did hear it once, I think). So if it's that, what is the repair?

Neither. It sounds like an air compressor. And I have now concluded that it is NOT the headlights.
