Hello Everyone:

Here are the steps how to DIY Rear and Front brake pads replacement. Its VERRY easy! Anyone can do it. If you can do a tire rotation you can do this.
Note: I will try to upload images and short video clip of the front brake pads next or so.

Step 1: Releases the parking brake and make sure that the parking brake indicator light goes off.
Step 2: Use the plier to remove the pin hold clips
Step 3: Push the hold pins in with screw driver or long needle plier until the rattle spring fall off.
Step 4: Remove 2 brake pads from caliper, 2 anti squeal shim and anti rattle spring from each pad. Installed the anti squeal shim and anti rattle spring to the new brake pads.
Step 5: Ue the C-clamp to push the piston back so the new pads will slide in perfectly.
Step 6: Installed the pin hold clip first than the anti-rattle springs and that's it.
Lastly, I hope this will help other members.

But I thought every time you replace the brake pads your rotors have to be re-surfaced to prevent vibration on the steering wheel?

 

You're correct. However, I only replace brake discs, when I feel the vibration under hard braking or see warped brake discs or discs thickness under spec. mfg. call out. I hope this helps!

Don't the LS brakes also have the sensor wires? If so do they need to be replaced as well?

 

Yes, only if it bad. But there are 2 sensors front and rear passenger sides.

 

Is the procedure for the rear the same?

 

Yes, but easier! I can do a short video for the front and rear if you guys wanted too. Let me know!

Thanks it does, I cannot believe the sensor wire is almost double the cost of the pads.

Nice DIY, seems easy enough and you'll save couple hundy over the dealer. When I purchased my car the dealer had already performed the 105K service and replaced front pads due to them being warped and changed the brake fluid also because it looked dirty. Total cost just for that was 331.00. Looks like my brakes lasted 25K according to records, don't know if that's normal but seems decent seeing how heavy the car is and how much these pads get punished under normal use. If I may also add that if you have two drivers in the household your pads will probably need be replaced or checked more often, especially if its a female, just saying
