squeking brakes
happy labor day to all
so i have a 2010 lexus i bought used with about 80k miles, and a little while after purchasing i realized about twice a week my brakes would squeak really badly, never when i bring it to the dealer of course, but they always say its fine(2 separate dealers told me that). being that the car has so many miles, can it be the brakes are fine but that brake wear sensor needs replacing? should i just replace the brakes? has anybody gone aftermarket? anything you guys have that will help i'll appreciate it

The lexus GS cars have had an issue with brake squeal, but that has had to do with dust getting trapped in the brake pads. New pads have slots in them to alleviate this problem. The LS I don't believe suffers from that. You cannot replace the brake wear sensor as I'm aware because it is usually only going to make contact when the pads are low. So you might be at the point of pad replacement. 12mm is generally new, 2mm is generally where the pads need replacement.
Depending on how the previous owner used them, you could be half way through the wear or at the point it needs replacement. If you do need new pads, they can ruin the rotors if not replaced soon. On the bright side, you could always use this as an excuse to upgrade to a nice pair of ceramic pads. Low dust and better braking.

EBC I think makes some good pads. And yes they are aftermarket. If you are at 7-8mm, you haven't even reached half way on the wear. Check the rotors for grooving on them. It could also be that you might need to bed/deglaze them. Research bedding pads and you will slowly do hard braking from slow speeds to higher ones and this can sometimes alleviate the issue. Just do it in an area with little to no traffic,
Since reading this thread I have replaced my pads and my wife's with Akebono. I could not be happier.
