My 09 LS460 on 22' Vossen CV3's

As you know, i had been on the hunt for a set of wheels for my car. This past Saturday i was scheduled to meet up with a guy and buy his CV1s, but he cancelled on me and gave me some lame excuse that someone had died in his family, etc, etc (i think he probably knew the wheels were bent or damaged and i would not buy them when i saw them).
That being said, i passed by on Saturday by one of the wheel shops to get my tints done. I told my gf to come with me so she could see the wheels i was supposed to buy from this guy. So she walks in with me and sees them (she was probably more thriled to get wheels on the car than i was lol) and we started to price out wheels. The sales guy said to look at the CV3's for my car. We were kinda like hmmm we are not sure (not to mention i was not trying to pay 3 grand for wheels) and so he started to look on google for images of my car with the CV3s on and we simply couldnt find any. He said, he had NEVER does these wheels on my car, but regularly did CV1s on many cars including a ton of Nissan Maximas
We weren' really convinced on the wheels because there weren't enough images to really say wow we love them.
Anyhow, i said (again, i wasn't tryng to buy wheels from anyone after what had happened)
" here are my keys and do my tints, we will be back to pick my car later"
My gf says, "i really want wheels on the car.. I said, yea, but three grand? no way"
Long story short, she says "take me to the bank, i am going to buy them" and well, the rest is history.. She gave me the wheels :woohoo:
Thank you CJITTY's and Adam for all your help. I walked in the shop knowing exactly what size wheels and tires they needed to install and have not had any issues with them (except for the very slight vibration i feel around 65-75mph which they will try to re-balance my wheels/tires again tomorrow) but besides that, they look phenomenal on this car. I really like the LS600 healights with the wheels. I don't feel that i have lost much ride quality and i dont have any rubbing of any kind..
What a wonderful girlfriend i have! :p

A few night shots....................

There are plenty of pics of 460s with cv3s. Vossen has a video of one too.

You guys can do 15% tint in Florida, right? Does that mean you can't take the car out of the state since you'd be in violation of nearby states' 30-35% regulations?

Shibumi1 03-25-13 09:59 AM

i love the headlights... who did your swap??

no as long as your a fl resident with a current fl drivers license they cant give u a ticket.. at best a warning.. and the legal limit in fl is 30% front 20% rear...

They came with the car when i purchased it a month ago. That being said, my mechanic friend who works at lexus said he knows how they did it. I have a thread posted where i was/still am considering selling them along with the harness.

Oh, if only that was true my brotha. There is no reciprocity with window tint. Here in GA, if you are operating a vehicle with illegal tint per GA law, you can be cited regardless of what state you come from or where your license is. Same reason they can issue a speeding ticket..you are violating the state's rules. Especially here with the ton of illegal narcotics going up through the 75/85 corridors, tint is an easy way to get the conversation going for LEOs. Depending on how dark it is, they technically can make you remove it on the spot for "safely operating the vehicle"...meanwhile, their tint is hella dark

Thats why for light interiors I go 15% all around and for dark interiors I go 25% sides and 15% rear..the tint is dark enough for my taste without attracting extra looks.

TintDude.com is a great website with a forum about these things if anyone is interested.

Wheels look great. I would suggest some coilovers to drop that down just a touch. Tanabe drop is very nice too and rides great, but you can't adjust for road trips or things like that. Or just put aftermarket air suspension on there and call it a day!

As far as vibration, ensure the wheels have hub centric rings in ALL 4 wheels. If you still have vibration, then hopefully you have a place in FL that can do high speed on the car balancing (balance finishing), similar to what I did here in ATL on my 460 about a year ago...now I have these on my 600 and the wheels are still balanced with no vibration. Now, full disclaimer..they were able to balance the wheels perfectly without actually adding or adjusting weights with the procedure below. But, this process spins the wheels up to about 120mph and factors other rotating masses like rotors, bearings, etc. I heard they can even smooth out slightly bent wheel vibrations using this method. The car sits on a stand that is wired to the machine he is sitting on to detect vibration. They place a piece of white tape and use a strobe light on the machine he is sitting on to detect imbalances. They do this a lot in Europe. It costs about $150, but they discounted mine and charged me just a little more than a regular balance since no finishing was required.

i was quoted $440 dollars out the door for h&r springs with installation included...... What do you think?

If that is springs and install, that is a good price. If not with install, then I suggest getting Tanabe's for $250 to $275 new. I have a guy in Orlando that can do the spring installation for under $300. Let me know, I can PM you. I didn't think HR made springs for the 460 to be honest

Nash 03-25-13 11:38 AM

Man you better put a ring on it! Haha

silver305 03-25-13 12:53 PM

Now i would like to get a front lip kit to make the front end stand out. The only thing that makes it nice right now are the ls600 lights.

Huh? I read FL as 28% front side windows, 15% back side windows and rear window. (TintLaws.com)

Shibumi1 03-25-13 05:40 PM

here we go again...

yes fl law reads 28% front 15%rear ( if your at 27% n 14% no ticket, if your at 20% n 10% pay up)

what we use at the shop lists at 35% n 20% but they also make a 30%(which is the same as the 35%) ea company lists product as they see fit.. you'd need to measure ea glass (bcuz ea glass will have different reflective properties) before & after the tint is installed to get an exact measure.. fyi you'll also get different readings if the measuring device has new or older batteries..

i have never been stopped in Ga for tint. but in NYC,NJ,DC all i got were warnings (bcuz i had an FL license an the car was registered in FL) and i had double 5%... so if they should have given me a ticket... too little too late...

fyi my car now has 35% all the way around....

timeless88 03-25-13 06:30 PM

that last night shot looks hot!

silver305 03-25-13 08:34 PM

i am considering the drop next, but i believe i might just tackle the front rotors and pads first.I'll have them turned and replace the front pads. That needs more attention than dropping the vehicle.

lbintab 03-25-13 09:23 PM

California there's no limit on how dark for the rears but can't have any up front. So mines is 5% rear windows and no tint on the front windows. I also have my sun shade up during the day to make it even darker inside the car.

adamls2 03-25-13 10:14 PM

15% all around except for windshield, which I'm either gonna do 50% or the llumar80 blue tint

LXurious 03-26-13 01:38 AM

Tint thread highjack! Im running on full mirror tint except the rear windsheild is 5% dark. I dont know what you could classify mirror tint % as but its like 50% all around. A cop flashed a light at my window and got blinded LOL!

305Busa 03-26-13 10:00 AM

Really nice look. And you have PM buddy.

Could you get away with at least 50% on front door windows?..or 70% on windshield and front doors to darken them a little without being too obvious for UV rejection

Aren't they already at 70% from the factory? I thought that's why 35% film takes you to 35% VTL once it's applied. We need a tint expert here. Oops! Make that "VLT" - told you we need an expert...

iRyan 03-26-13 12:20 PM

i love the way those wheels look on the car and usually i don't like the black windows but it flows well...do you plan to lower it any?

SprtDesign 03-26-13 12:35 PM

CJITTY, did you get the high speed balance done at Butler Tire? Or another shop?

silver305 03-26-13 12:37 PM

yes i will drop it, but i probably need to address the brake issue first. The whole "slapping" sound of the front end. Sounds as if the brake pads were "dancing" inside the caliper or something along those lines. I dont think it is my brake actuator.

Usually unless the cops are complete dicks, you can get away with 35% tint all around in California. The only time I've heard heard of people getting pulled over were for tints 20% and under.

Sorry to hijack your thread. You're a lucky man. I wish my gf would put in 3k for a set of rims.

Yup, Butler Tire Marietta. I heard Gran Turismo Motorsports, who do awesome alignments on lowered cars by the way can do High Speed On the Car Balancing...I also learned that Metro Wheels and TIres on S Cobb Dr in Marietta can do this too...PM CL Member Rome99LS for more info on that since he works there.

I can confirm that my OEM windows are at 94% because with my 25% tint, the meter actually reads at 19% (6% difference to factor in). This is what usually gets most people...to get 20% tint, you actually need 25% or so. There is usually a +/- variable they factor in..for example you get 35% and the meter reads 30% and the state of GA requires 32%...they won't ticket you for that..but, once you stray past that 10% less than legal limit is when you get in trouble.....sorry for continuous hijack OP..since the tint discussion is happening, I guess this is relevant.

By the way OP, something is not quite right...I think you need a front lip on that car to set it off

Your issue has been discussed by me and others. You probably have caliper rattle where the pads are not secured by the additional spring clips to keep them from moving. Aftermarket pads can sometimes do this too. My tech used a rubber like product as a filler that can withstand heat and keep the pads tight in the caliper on my old 460. Those were Akebono pads by the way..great pad but they seemed loose in my 460. Once he fixed that, it took care of it. My brakes make that clap/click sound when I am backing up and applying brakes..but never heard unless i am at parking lot speed and windows have to be down for me to hear it

Wheels look great, I'm debating between these and the CV7 in 22".

Ice350 03-26-13 04:41 PM

As much as I love 5 spoke wheels I think the LS looks best with the CV1.
Looks nice as is though....or will with a drop.

The reason I put 70% forward was this post in the GS (4th Gen) forum. There's a spec sheet on Page 3 that shows the GS350 VLTs from the factory. Hope this helps.

it would be cool if this MIke guy at Vossen actually responded his private messages. I want to ask him why the finish on these wheels is super sensitive. Maybe be he can replace the wheel that literally chipped off after i dropped my wheel lock key on it from a kneeling position..
Perhaps you can relay the message to him.

LXurious 03-27-13 11:09 PM

A nice brake kit would look killer on your car. But they often cost more than rims themselves

I got an email from them saying the VVS-CV7 will be in 22x9 and 22x10.5 fitment for the LS460. They do not have them in stock now, and do not have an eta when they will. So they're coming, hopefully soon. Still not sure what wheels I want though.
