I dont know if you guys are keen to this, but when BMW first launched their TT 6 cyl in the 3 series in 2007(maybe 06) rated at 300hp, people were taking their 335's to the dynos and getting somewhere close to 280hp at the wheels on their cars. I might be mistaken a bit since its been like 4 years but I'm pretty sure this is what happened. For some reason they underrated their TT 6 cyls. So if this is true, 280whp is more like 340-380 flywheel hp, no? Someone chime in if im wrong here.

And not to mention since their are turbos involved, im sure dinan or some other tuner can or has made a tuning kit to turn up the boost.

Of course these numbers can vary from source to source, but the 740i is typically clocked at just under 6 seconds from 0-60 whereas the LS 460 sport clocks in at about 6.5 seconds. I too, incorrectly it turns out, assumed that the 6 cyl. 740i would be underpowered compared to the 8 cyl. LS. And we all not what happens when we assume. Just the same, the LS is certainly fast enough for me.

Wonder why my stock standard LS460 clocks in at about 5.4 seconds?

Are those your own measurements or Lexus'? I'm not sure why there'd be a difference in the 0-60 times between the sport and the standard.

I believe that the original published Lexus estimate for the LS Sport was 5.4 seconds. There's no reason it would be slower than a standard LS. Same engine with a more aggressively tuned transmission.

Besides, when bmw has a common engine problem , they typically fix it and give you an extended warranty like they just did for the 535i engine where they extended the warranty on high pressure fuel pumps up to 125k miles.
Not common? What planet are you from? http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1166520

Oh yea and 7 series transmission problems http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?p=5752958

I'd be taking my 545i and trading it in on an ISF or LS..

Lately I haven been very po at my Lexus dealer with all the issues with my 07 Ls460L and their lackadaisical repair attitude/history. I considered the 7 series but after listening to my neighbor, I have put my moving-on itch on hold. As all I would be doing is jump from the fry pan into the fire.

My brother has a 2004 745Li, bought brand new. The first year he had the car it died on him while driving, he had to have it towed to the dealer and major repairs to the electronics. Now at 88k miles it is in the shop to have the tranny replaced. Luckily he has extended warranty until 90k. And the BMW dealer tried to screw him on the repairs, kept claiming there was no problem.

He said like every 20 miles he would get a transmission malfunction message on the display and the car wouldn't shift out of first gear, he would have to pull over and turn the car off to clear it. He finally made the service advisor go out and drive with him and it happened on mile 16. Come on, the dealer couldn't figure out that there was a problem?

Nice car, fun to drive, reliability sucks. And that navigation dial thing sucks too.

I don't think I'll ever own a different car than the LS460. I have owned and driven dozen's of cars including BMW, and have never driven a more luxurious sporty car, as the LS. But if you are asking on a Lexusclub forum sight, I don't think your going to get an un-biased place. Get the LS and forgetaboutit!!!!!

Are the current 740 (F01 & 02) built in Mexico?

I owned an 2000 740i (E38) and I'll share my repair horror stories later.

I recently considered trading in my 09 Lexus for a BMW 750 or 540. Test drive both BMW and been on Bimmerfest forum for month, here is my take:

Bimmer is nicer looking inside and maybe outside.

F body bimmer including the new 5 series and current 7 series have major problem with goodyear runflat tire. So much problem that getting a goodyear runflate tires often take weeks to month. These tires will bubble on sidewall on imperfect road(pothole, going fast over speed bump etc). These Bimmers do not come with sparetire.

740 maybe fast enough for 0-60 mph but engine struggle, It not refine like a Lexus V8. This is not acceptable for me on a 80 K full side lux car.

BMW's stiff ride after a while may wear on me. If I want a sporty handling car, I get a sport car or something smaller in coupe form.

I am waiting for new Lexus LS or MB S class in 2012 Sep.
hope this help.
