To Bra or not to Bra
You can see the line a lot more on dark colors than light ones, but the dark colors are where you see the paint chips a lot more too.
They work like crazy and really do save your paint. The older ones had a pebble sort of texture to them but the new ones don't. Really have to look to see them.

as far as doing the entire hood I would say dont. The clear bra does still affect the way the paint will shine slightly. Its subtle but still noticeable. Probably much more on dark colors that lighter colors
here is a shot of my blue GS350 with the hood done . You can see a very difference in the appearance of the paint ( still 100% worth it)

My brother did the clear bra on front 1/3 of hood of his Porsche 911. It's a white car. At first it looked pretty good, now few years later, the line is very distinct with dirt accumulation and distinct color difference due to yellowing. So to me, it looks worse than having a few chips, but then again chips are permanent, and the film can be replaced. Just plan on replacing the film periodically, otherwise it looks pretty ugly. Just my opinion.

are they better tech than before? i recently had a customer who had 1 on an 06 ls430 an his not only turned yellow but cracked also... couldnt be taken off.. had to strip hood down to metal an repaint hood fenders mirrors & bumper.. at a cost of $1800... so he opted to paint the whole car so the color would match for $3500
i have a clear bra on my Acura, 7 years and counting. over time, that line is more visible, but nothing crazy. Just don't buff it with a rotary buffer. A detailer once strayed over and the swirls on the 3M clear bra were very obvious..maybe because of how it reflects but you can't see any swirls on my white paint , but the clear bra showed it..

i did the install on my car back in 2002, i took everything apart myself later, never a problem
+1 on "yes to bra" here.
A long time ago I created a thread showing the pictures of the Venture Shield on my car. Click here if you want to check it out.

I spoke in depth to my dealer about putting a ClearBra on the White RX400h here due to stone chips etc. They touched them up for free and they highly recommended against the ClearBra due to you will see it on light colors and over time it becomes more visible. They even showed me a light colored car that it was visible on. So I turned it down.
I have had the clear bra applied to my last 4 vehicles. First was a white ES330 and the bra did yellow after a few years but i called my installer and he came out and removed the old one and replaced it with a new one. Lifetime warranty. No charge. I had it installed on Blue and Silver SUVs and my most recent Lexus, LS460L, Verdigris. Yes you can see hte line at certain angles but it has protected the paint that would have had dings and scratches if the bra wasn't there. You can contact me and I will provide the contact info on the guy i used for the Clear Bra. He comes to you and does it in a couple of hours. You can have it done at work, home or whereever. I will always get this done to my cars. Front bumper, lights, fenders, hood and mirrors. On the LS i had the rear bumper covered where you can drag bags across it when loading/unloading the trunk. Lexus offers this as an option but dont' think it comes with a lifetime warranty.

OK, went to Newport Lexus today for a wash and finally saw a car with the clear bra installed. Looked a damn sight better than I thought it would. About the only thing you could see was what looked like a scratch across the hood at certain angles. Otherwise it was clean and you couldn't even tell. This was on smokey granite and I've got starfire pearl. I'm afraid the line will be more visible on the white, or am I wrong?
If I drove under normal conditions, I wouldn't even consider it. I keep coming back to that whole plastic covers on the sofa stereotype. But 135 mi/day on the So. Cal. freeways are making me think otherwise. Already had 3 minor chips, which I was able to touch-up pretty effectively, fortunately. The car still looks showroom new at a glance.
So what do you guys think? Bra or not?
