Does anyone have any recommendation for VSR in the Los Angeles area. I bought my 2007 LS460 new from Lexus of Glendale. Has anyone had any experience with their VSR from Lexus of Glendale? I would appreciate any positive or negative feedback. Do they have a good reputation?
Marty
Sorry Marty, I have no experience with Glendale. I live in OC and had the work done at South County Lexus.

The latest progress report, quarterly report #3, for the Valve Spring Recall has recently been posted on the NHTSA site. For the quarter ended 31 Mar 2011, 107,010 vehicles out of 138,874 (recalled in the US) have been "inspected and repaired."

LS460 valve springs! The new springs are thicker and taller..., according to Lexus it was a combination of spring thickness and poor material quality from the supplier.. (so I've heard), 2006 IS250/GS300 is also affected but is not part of the recall...

Ours is a 2010 LS460L. Our 4th LS and this one is the worst. At idle the cabin noise makes you believe that you are surrounded by trucks. The dealer and Lexus rep say it is normal. One service rep blamed the placement of the fuel pumps. I asked them to put Hyundae pump, since they are more quiet. For a Luxury car to have this problem is ridiculous. Lexus doesn't seem to have the answer or even care. Anybody have a solution?

so when you sit in another LS460 on their lot, it sounds the same? Mine is an 07 and at idle, it sounds like the inside of a well sealed closet. Other than a subtle motor rumble there is no sound at all, even the AC is quiet. Its a matter of perspective, but compared to Benzs etc that I have owned in the past, this is by far the quietest vehicle that I have owned. I had a Lexus GS before this and the LS is 2x quieter IMO. If they all sound the same to you then I would say your sensitivity is higher than others and go back to what you know you like.

its hard to appreciate the 460 when the 430 was refined to perfection... but the 460 it's way more advanced than its predecessor and its a completely different kind of ride. The valve spring was a unfortunate quality issue that was put on blast.. you don't see the media blasting BMWs shearing cylinder head bolts issue, Cadillac's crossover potential fire concern and other car manufacturers that used the same "defective" US made gas pedal, the "CTS"...

I haven't done mine yet. Makes me a nervous wreck to even think about opening up the engine.

The Valve Spring Retrofit is a NHTSA administered "Safety Recall" and, as I understand it, has no statute of limitations. Since this does not involve tires there is no timetable for implementation and the recall is in force for the "life of the product."

Here is a link to "What Is A Safety Recall": http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...llproblems.cfm

I also have not done the recall out of fear that they will cause bigger problems with the repair. If the springs break, I will then have them fixed. If I am not happy, I will just sell the car. I spoke with the warranty division, and they assured me that they would fix it even if it broke out of warranty. The guy also indirectly hinted that he wouldn't risk it either, if there is no current problem, because it seems like only 1 in 500 cars are affected. He can't say not to do it because of liability issues, but I'm willing to take my chances for now. I'm almost certain that they will cause some other issue, even if it's not related to the springs. I can't even take it in for a simple inspection without issues. Last time they got grease all over my interior, I was not happy!

I had my GS350 done and then bought my LS460 3 months later only to discover that it also needed to be done. I have had no issues with the car at all since then.

BTW Has anyone got their check for $500 from Lexus. I had 2 cars done and havent received a thing. This kind of stuff leaves a bad yaste in my mouth with Lexus. I wish they would get their *** off their shoulders

Mine actually runs better with 70,000 miles on it then it did before VSR, 60,000 miles

The 500 gift card came about 2 months later, and its already long gone on parts.. Mine is an 07 CPO so qualified for the 500.00 GC.
