mottled checkerboarded tinted rear window
When the light hits my back window a certain way, a noticeable checkerboard pattern appears. Anybody else see this?

Do you wear prescription sunglasses........ the pattern you are seeing as described is polarization either built in the auto glass to reduce glare or the sunglasses.

I see it only with my polarized sunglasses in the light. If I take them off I see just glare. So is this normal?

It's normal with polarized sun glasses. I had the same thing on my 550i. When I wear non-polarized glasses the checkerboard pattern is not there.
