Default High beam pattern on LS460 looks odd

2008 LS460. I'm happy with the low beams but the high beam energy is concentrated in pattern is "V" shaped and illuminates the trees and not the road. When pointed at a wall from beyond about 20 feet, there is is an un-illuminated dark stripe between high and low!

So I have 2 questions: Is the V shape beam normal?

If so, should it be aimed so high? At 20 feet, the high beam energy is concentrated between approx 28 inches and 43 inches.

Complicating the mattter is the entire headlight assembly is adjusted - so if I adjust the highs downward I also effect the lows.

I have taken photos but I am having difficulty uploading them. Service department at Lexus treats me like I am retarded and made of money.

Hi there, I don't have an LS but I can contribute some photos of the high beams on my MDX and RX. If you want a little later I can put up pics of the GS so you can see sedan.

In my opinion both of these do an excellent job at illuminating the road.

MDX @ 10 feet

RX @ 10 feet

The only thing I can add is that I also noted that the high beams illuminated the trees very well and did not add much to the low beams. I had the dealer check the high beams on my 2008 LS 460 and they checked out OK. The lights give me the impression that the "highs" only illuminate on top of the "low beams". I wonder if the "low" beam changes on "high beam" selection? The low beams are so good that I no longer am concerned about the high beams being set High.

Default feedback from Lexus Calgary service department

thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

So the service manager just phoned me.... He and one of his top techs spent 2 hours on this problem today. They analyzed my headlight assemblies and compared another customer's car and one of dealer's 460LS to my car. He says the beam patterns are identical. He has confirmed the dark stripe between the bottom of the high and the top of the low on all 3 cars and guesses that most 460LS owners are not driving in the country at nite, because he has not had any complaints - until me.

So he is going to drive a new 460 in the country this weekend to get his impressions.

Wow. I think I will take this to a headlight speceailist in Calgary and ask their opinion.... maybe a bulb will make an improivement.
