Default Pictures and Size...

Well, here are a few pictures of the culprit. My gut is telling me that when changes were made (from what I've heard) to free up some trunk space, the air filter had a shape change. Seems likely because it literally is right up against the trunk-side surface wall. So any "shaving" of that wall in toward the cabin (to make more trunk space) would require a shape change of the filter (amongst other rear HVAC items). And, the term "shape change" is DIRECTLY what it is called at Toyota (so embrace it ). And the subsequent shape change brought it to a shape that no other filter has. And therefore Denso (I suspect) makes 5 or 10 or these a year () to support the LS 460 vehicles that will need them. Meaning, the low volume produced is causing the high cost. Without further adieu...

No part numbers on the filter (I know the Toyota number, but I mean maybe there could have been a Denso part number that might have been crossable).

The bottom is the dark color, the top is the whitish color. The 3rd picture makes me curious what this little clear clip is, and what function it serves. I sat the remote control beside it so the scale of this narrow width, but thick filter could be realized.

Dennis - My dimensions only varied from your on the overall length. Not 10-1/4, but 10-1/8. Big deal, right?

I've gone through all the cross-reference filter documents that I can find, and I can find no cross for this size. The closest filter was a cabin air filter for some kind of Cat equipment. As you can see, this filter looks like new. So I'm not overly concerned about replacing it now that I'm 30k miles.

I think we ought to allow good ole roadfrog buy that ebay rear filter he has posted up, and measure it. My guess is, it is not the same as Dennis and I have measured (pictured). If I'm wrong, I will buy from you ole buddy. I'll even pay the shipping from the great white north to the great green south. Deal?

Jason, That filter is definitely not the same as the one in my 2008 LS600hL! Mine is not as thick and is more square-shaped. It's quite a bit bigger than the front Cabin Air Filter, but the same general shape/thickness (maybe around 10 wide x 10 tall x 1 inch deep). Mine also has the small plastic clip in the middle for some reason. Sounds like you may be stuck buying a pricey filter! Mine was pretty spotlessly clean also, so I don't think I'll bother replacing it just yet. My car has 78K miles, and I know for a fact the rear filter hasn't been changed since I've owned it (20K miles).

If you notice the upper right corner of that controller, it's busted. We only use it as a shim under a couch leg so the couch doesn't teeter. I think my TV was made by General Motors.

Just swapped my 2008 600h rear a/c filter with Beck Arnley 042-2132 from amazon. $12.32 + taxes. One of the simplest maintenance items in the car.

I know this is an old thread but trying to get a rear A/C filter for my 12 ls460L . Turns out that the filter is unique for 11-13 cars and it seems that there are no current aftermarket options and OEM (part number 8713950080) is $100+! The only thing I could find is this and is no longer made:
https://atpautomotive.com/carbon-act...-filter-ra-144
In case you are searching here are the dimensions.
Cabin Filter Length A (in inches)
10.1875
Cabin Filter Width A (in inches)
5.1875
Cabin Filter Depth A (in inches)
2.375

Good luck for the 3 of us that have rear A/C in those model years!

It's way overpriced. But, if you consider that it's 10 years of service for $100, it doesn't sting so bad.

I found this video that shows one being replaced. I don't know if all LS models use the same rear filter or if it varies through the years?
