What is Knockout Opposite Hold Button?

What is the knockout, that is the exact same size and shape and exactly opposite the HOLD button on the steering wheel? I looked in the manual, thinking it might be for some option that I don't have. But even the manual just shows a knockout. Perhaps they use the same steering wheels in Japan with the HOLD on that side???

It is for the Lane Keep Assist and the Radar Cruise Control in some countries

Daryll,

Rorich Lexus didn't have any of those available when I bought mine. I don't think that they order too many of these. It would probably have to be a special order through them...

daryll40 Mar 19, 2008 09:35 AM

Agreed...I am at Rohrich frequently and have never even seen that option.

rominl Mar 19, 2008 10:25 AM

i think on mine it says radar cruise control, but i can't remember exactly (never use it)

daryl, i sent you a pm, did you get it?

daryll40 Mar 19, 2008 10:37 AM

Rominl,

I just replied. Thanks for publicly reminding me to check my PM!

lol radar cruise is a very limited option only for special production. the Lane Keep Assist isnt available in the United States, go figure.

its a pretty cool function too, as it actually tilts the steering wheel towards theh other direction if you cross a lane without signalling (as seen in the fifth gear review).

as for knockouts, i think a flagship sedan should not have any. I know its cost effective, but they are ugly. I am specifcally refering to the knockouts behind the gear shifter for the air suspenion option

I find that I use my Radar Cruise Button fairly often, when I am in cruise control and want to adjust the distance I am following cars in moderately heavy traffic. Normally I keep it in the farthest (3 bars) position, but if a lot of cars are cutting in front of me, I shorten up the distance. I didn't especially want the option but it came with all the other extras I got when all I wanted was the reclining seat, ottoman and massage in back. :D

I ALWAYS use the radar cruise on the highway. I love it!

RXSF Mar 19, 2008 08:15 PM

my understanding is that the radar cruise on lexus models will cancel out during an emergency situation? unlike the mercedes distronic?

I use it all the time on my LS600hL and also on my LS430UL. It's become second nature to use it since the LS430.

They have them in NASCAR too. That's how they draft. Just set it to 6" behind the car your drafting, and voila.

ah, and i have always wondered how they kept it right at 6"!

There is not a blank knockout on my LS600hl. It's just one big radar cruise control distance button.
