I've had my share of noise problems with my "flagship" LS600hL. A creaky dashboard, passenger's side window, and plastic camera cover behind the rearview mirror. I guess I can't blame the assembly guys as these seem more like design errors. But you think these problems would have been found well before production in their pursuit to perfection.
The "obsession" really is amazing. It's incredible how much time and effort goes into the LS.. However, if I were in the market for a car that offers what the traditional Lexus LS does, I'd be looking for a 2006 LS430 Ultra... Like Cadillac, who no longer makes vehicles that appeal to me, I have a feeling that even Lexus is heading in that direction.
Let's see what the NEXT LS is like. I'm really worried that it'll be more like a BMW 7-Series than a Mercedes S-Class (like it originally took after). Lexus will have entirely lost my interest at that point.
I too definitely hope Lexus keeps its LS Series focused on luxury, which it has traditionally targeted, in many ways. And while I think that the flagship plant's standards are great--I hope that the kaizen approach improves them further. With the latest models, with the added complexity, it might help to further enhance the testing process. Especially as they reportedly are ramping up production to meet demand.
