Default Lug nuts on aftermarket wheels. Problem??

I was just at at Lexus dealership with my after market wheels. I was talking to the head mechanic and he commented that the techs from Japan were there the previous week. He mentioned that the lug nuts on the OEM wheels are huge for a reason. It is to handle the high torque. Even if you do not floor the car all the time, the LS460 has high torque at low RPMS. He said most after market wheels have small lugs which could cause an issue. Mine are pretty skinny in comparison.

The above reinforces my general rule about customizing wheels/tires. There are highly trained engineers with special computer modeling programs that design these as a part of the overall safety system.

Any tampering should be done thoughtfully and carefully. DO NOT trade in your OEM tire/wheel sets until you are certain that you have replaced suitably.

FYI, in Germany, it is a violation of federal law to alter the tire size, and/or rim size, on any motor vehicle. This is not without a reason!

everything lies in quality. if you get good quality stuff, you will not have problems... there are supra and skylines running 1000hp (and you know how much tq) with aftermarket wheels and lug nuts. as long as they are good quality ones, they will be able to handle the power....

Just to make sure, I am sourcing some RAYS lug nuts and will be checking the torque on them regularly until I am satisfied. I will report back to the forum.

I doubt they will fall off at the mind numbing 130 mph top end the ls reaches.
