It's true. My $400 TOMTOM 910 blows smoke at my Lexus NAV. I use the TOMTOM because it's MUCH easier (more intuitive) to use and because it's portable, I can program it with waypoints before trips while sitting at my desk, instead of hunched over the steering wheel. In fact, if I was not afraid of creating a resale orphan (like buying a car today without air conditioning), I'd order an LS without NAV altogether.

While the NAV in the LS is impressive, the one on the Accura RL is even more so. Allows for a lot more voice commands (you could look au POI by Voice), Zagat reviews, and works when the car is moving
Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I am aware of the Nav's greater potential, even if ours is not fully developed here as it is in the US.

You have a UL?
I have a 05UL and thinking about going to the LS600lh.
From what I've seen on the LS460 interior, it's almost a downgrade from the UL.

The LS 430 UL was and is the pinnacle of Lexus in its day, and still is superb. However depending on the grade of leather and trim selections, the 460/460 L interior holds its own IMO. But then again the LS 600h L has the leather dash and more wood.

what part of the 460 interior you think is downgrade? i have been looking at the two, imho the ls460 is at least as good, if not better. the 600hl is definitely a notch above as well

WOW! I’m amazed! I clearly am not up on all the new stuff like you guys.
I was thinking that the Lexus Nav was “THE” clear leader in Nav technology!

But, fellas, if you were to see an 08 Mercedes Nav, you would think you were
back in the model T days. MB is so disgustingly behind! Ruins the “new car”
experience .. where you count on new and exciting things! From my 06 DTS,
the E-350 is an expensive set-back.

Jimm,
Agreed, Mercedes and BMW (well, I haven't looked in 2 years) are way behind Lexus.
Lexus is certainly not the clear leader in Nav technology, it's more mid-pack. Not awful, certainly, but there are much better Nav systems out there.

As far as NAVIs go, depends IMO. According to CNET and my own personal experience, the Lexus NAVI is one of the best on the market. Excellent resolution, sharp graphics, fast response speed, top-notch voice guidance, first XM NavTraffic with dynamic rerouting on the market. Yes, when it comes to voice recognition and the motion lockout, the Lexus system has some disadvantages, namely that the voice commands are only about 100 and the recognition varies, plus no inputs in motion. But I would take a Lexus touchscreen any day over an Acura ****-version (MDX, RL, not TL/TSX).

to me personally, i think acura nav are better than lexus, but infiniti ones are not close to be as good

and the aftermarket ones, i wouldn't even consider. never like seeing things hanging around inside my car

While I was getting BlueTooth installed in my C6, a guy
took me home in his Ford PU. He had a Pioneer in it.

It was GREAT! Wish I had it in my E-350. He showed me
that it takes you to your EXACT location .. like I think ALL
Navs do .. except, of course, MB.

Well the MB system, at least from my experience with the new C-Class, leaves some things to be desired. But they do offer the ability now to transfer your itinerary from computer to car.

But it's easier to program the Lexus and other touchscreen NAVIs.

Picked up my 2008 last night and no wind noise issues....at all. Extremely quiet beyond my expectations.

I have a 2007 LS 460L and there is a wind noise that is quite intolerable at highway speeds. Lexus is working on a fix for the 2009 model. I would hold off for at least 18 months.

I don't think its necessary to wait. The last made 2007 models (like mine and others posting here) do not have the wind noise problem, and judging from the post ahead of yours, the 2008's are fine as well.
