hey guys and gals,
i just was on the LS chat on the lexus website....the person i talked to claimed that the regular pre-collision on the website will include the driver-monitoring camera....and he said the advanced pre-collision and just precollision terms have been accidentally used interchangeably....so now basically i'm just really really confused....so i thought i'd confuse some of you more

Welcome to CL, sethyg, and thx for the information! Glad someone tried out the Lexus hybrid chat.
AFAIK, there is one "Lexus Pre-Collision System" offered for the LS. The same term is used for similar systems offered for the IS/ES...IIRC also GS and the new LX 570.
However, the LS system is the most advanced in that its detection capabilities include stereocameras etc. Features which did not appear on the U.S. market LS 460/460 L were the Driver Monitoring System and the Rear Pre-Collision system (FCC approval issues).
So perhaps the packaging of the Lexus Pre-Collision System in the LS 600h L includes the Driver Monitoring System. The information given by the hybrid chat sounds consistent there.

hey folks, my wife got on the lexus chat again....i copied and pasted the discussion (her name is kelly)
Heather Mauu: According to my research the PCS system is equipped the same in the LS 460 and and the LS 600h. Is there anything further I may assist you with?
Kelly: ok so the driver monitoring camera doesn't come with the 600 hl?
Kelly: (with the pre collision package that is)
Heather Mauu: I apologize, it does come with an additional camera on the steering wheel that the 460 does not have.
Kelly: ok so even though they're listed as the same, the 600 hl is actually the advanced-pre collision (APCS) right?
Heather Mauu: Yes, you are correct. Also developed for the LS 600h L is an available Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS). One element of the APCS is the world’s first driver attention monitor. A camera mounted on the steering column monitors the orientation of the driver’s face. If the driver is not looking directly ahead and an object is detected in front by two cameras mounted near the rear view mirror, the system first alerts the driver with a warning tone and then a flashing light. To assist the driver in maneuvering around the obstacle, the system adjusts the steering ratio to improve the steering response. The system can also prime the Brake Assist to apply increased braking force when the brake pedal is depressed.

Enigma. Thanks for that info. Now much of what my dealer was saying makes sense. They have categorically told me that it is impossible to order an LS600hL now with the Driver Monitoring System (or the "Advanced Pre-Collision system"). I can see that in the future, leaping through the FCC hurdles, this could be released. Just not now with the bleeding-edge orders.
the NM cars aren't released yet as far as i know. they are supposed to be the first though.
awesome info sethy! now it's much clearer about the system on the ls600hl. good to know that it includes the brake assist and the steering ratio changes
