I was curious about that myself, what will happen to the original car.

Look, stuff like this DOES happen from time to time EVEN with Lexus. That being said Lexus is fat and happy enough to take care of you and they don't want the bad press. So stand up for yourself and insist on a new car, exactly as you originally bought, and a decent loaner/rental until they can get it or build it if need be. Just do it.
i think it makes sense for the dealership to pay for the rental (eww...) or a loaner car while the new car is being ordered. but if you insist on getting an 08, then i don't think this makes sense

We have a few cars, so a loner hasn't really been an issue. However, my mom is getting sick of having to drive the Excursion (which we use to hall the dog and the boat) around town. I don't really think we are looking for an 08, just something as close to what we have. The touring package is a biggie though...

in that case i'd definitely ask for a loaner car, make it rx or es or whatever, just a lexus at least. i think your request is more than reasonable

Well we spoke with the dealership today (Fresno Lexus) and they said that there has been no word from corporate as to locating us another car. My mom is of the opinion that 72 hours is plenty of time to search a database and come back with an answer as to whether or not we can get the car. Mean while we enter into the fourth week of this problem with nothing but an empty space in the garage. At first this was mildly funny, now it is just down right annoying.

I would take my money back and go to a different dealer and locate the car my self.

Maybe it's an issue with finding Touring models...the LS 460 L is rare enough, but the Touring is hard to find.

JP Lexus had a nice L Mica Touring Pkge last week when I went in to get my 8K service. Probably still there. My wife spent most of the hour in the back recliner getting massaged...

Are you sure it's a Touring Package car ? I don't think it has the back massager , massager is only available with the Executive Package's right rear seat with ottoman right ?

Maybe they just put the 19" 5-spoke Touring wheel on an Executive Package ?

They won't even let you have the premium semi-aniline leather with the Touring Package in Canada . . .
