SWB drivers, are you having Wind noise problems?
How many of you who claim to hear excessive wind noise have tried the workaround of "flicking" the two front windows down about 1/16th of an inch?
It makes a huge difference in my car. In fact, if you observe the reflections of objects in the glass, you'll notice that the glass "straightens out" after you do this. When the windows are fully raised, the reflection indicates the glass is slightly bowed, and the sound of the wind and road is noticeably louder.
Just curious...

[QUOTE=460LEX;2592151This noise is caused by the wind rushing by the window. It has to do with the aerodynamics of the car. While Lexus is looking into it, it more than likely won't be solved this model year. If you check on the Merc and BMW sites they all talk about wind noise. [/QUOTE]
You do realize this is the exact same EXCUSE given many ES350 owners who objected to hearing excessive wind noise and who to this day have not been given a resolution, and it's been a year.

Over 100+ attempts and it only made a difference a couple of times. Which also equaled the number of times I got a 100db whistling noise right in my ear instead of "silence".
For your amusement, drive about 60mph, roll down the driver's window till its just clear of the rubber weatherstripping (about 1/4"-1/2"), and stick your fingers up into the gap. Feel how much the window vibrates. Somewhat amazing that the cars is as quiet as it is with all that going on just inches from your ear.

Hey Craig, maybe that's because you're in the driver's seat. Not being facetious, however my wife who sits in the Pax seat says the wind noise on that side is louder.
460LEX, the Dupont acoustic glass has an interesting graph that demonstrates the effective range being in the 1,000-2,500kHz, and even then causing only a 5dB drop. Having not checked, I would hazard to guess that wind noise is higher than that, making its use, in this case anyway, almost redundant. I fully agree with your assertions. Probably why Lexus engineers are tearing their hair out right now trying to convince the marketing types. Poor saps, they're most likely thinking, "First you want aerodynamics, now you want silence???"

Here is a little tip to help you deal with that little bit of wind noise, drive with one of your rear windows down for about 3 minutes and when you roll it up I gurantee you that wind noise that you hear will be nonthing compared to what you will hear with that rear window roll down all the way.
.Having recently ridden in an LS430 and an LS460SWB, the 430 has much less wind noise. I think Lexus will need to do something about this.

This is to 20007es350 I have read some of you posts and I see that you have been called a whiner over at the es350 forums. I don't think you are a whiner you seem like a smart guy. Maybe intense would be a good word. Some of the posters at es350 felt that you were being to negative about Lexus, and expressed that you cool it. My wish is that this wind noise thing doesnt get to crazy. I have talked to some deep in Lexus and all I can say is that if you think you cars wind noise is going to be fixed you should start to look for a different car. This noise is caused by the wind rushing by the window. It has to do with the aerodynamics of the car. While Lexus is looking into it, it more than likely won't be solved this model year. If you check on the Merc and BMW sites they all talk about wind noise. It bothers some more than others, I for one have to turn my radio down and listen for it, if you focus on it will bother you. Test drive some other cars and see when you focus on nosies if things don't get nosier. As a side note in your sig you have a Lexus buyback in there, these forums are full of Lexus fans and some might take offense to the part of your sig, of course it is your right to have it in there just my opinion.
the car isnt perfect, but its pretty darn close. also, this serves you right for buying the first year product

you know what i have to live with in my first year RX? drivers side wind noise, hesitation in transmission, rattles from the sunroof area, squeaking rear seat. you guys have it good.
dont let this one thing ruin your lexus experience.
I have driven my 460 250 miles so far and did notice the wind noise, though it is not very loud. What I also noticed is the damped sound of other vehicles passing in the other direction. It seems as if the side glass filters the noise though not all frequencies as someone else already noted.
Sorry those of you who really care about this, I am keeping the car in spite of such minor imperfections.
Let me digress for a moment and relate a common gripe about my 2005 GTO. The GTO's differential whines at 50 mph, which must be a resonance point. This is a common trait. Some guys have had their GTO differentials replaced twice under warranty without success and wonder why the old differential, when inspected, show no unusual wear patterns. They don't get it- when two gears mesh, they make noise. This is especially so when the gears are designed to handle 400 hp (ever listen to a Winston Cup car transmission whine during the in car shots?)
In any event, if a differential whine in my GTO does not bother me, there is just no way I can get stirred up by the wind noise in the LS, especially considering how good the car is otherwise.

lol, seriously. What car have you driven (2007es350) that was absolutely perfect. Perhaps lexus isnt the car for you. Its already ranked number 1 or close to it for many years so i dont know if a small wind noise if worth all this complaint. Yes, i understand it can be annoying, but give it a while and lexus will work on it. They will do anything to save their flagship sedan, dont worry about it. people here are getting obsessive compulsive. lol
