C1555 and PS Light... again
Hi all,
I have a 2010 LS600h, and about three months ago, I drove through some standing water, approximately 3-4 inches deep. The next day, I had the PS light, no power steering, and a C1555 error code, which could not be erased. I was able to rock the wheel back and forth on startup and enable the override, so I did this for a few weeks whilst I sourced a new rack. This was fine, but after about a week, a loud whining noise developed at slow speeds when turning, so I'm guessing water had gotten in and corroded one or more bearings. When we replaced it a few weeks later, we cut the boots open to take a look, and the inner tie rods were severely rusted.
Replaced the rack, and the error went away. No issues. But in typical British fashion, it has rained every day this year. And on the way home from work the other week, again, there was standing water. This time, no more than an inch deep, seriously, it was just a puddle. Either way, stopped at the services about 15 minutes later. Got back in the car, started it, and again the PS light came on, indicating no power steering, and a C1555 error. However, this time, I’m not getting any whining noise. Yet...
Now the place I bought the rack from second hand (Lexus wants £10,000 plus VAT for a new one!) has been really good, and is sending out another rack to me free of charge. Again, a used one. But now this is my third rack! Obviously, I'll try to avoid standing water, but given that last time this was just a puddle, and if I try to avoid every puddle, I may as well never leave the house, is there anything that can be done to stop this from happening again!?
From the number of forum posts I've seen about this exact issue on multiple Lexuses, it seems like this is a really common issue. I refuse to believe Lexus would make a car that can't go out in the rain, but yeah, I really don't want to have to get a fourth rack in as many months! I can't imagine the company that supplied it would be as kind next time!
