Have to jump it to get it to start after turning off the engine for any length of time. Drive it where I’m going, no issues there, but as soon as I turn car off and then come back to go somewhere else, back to having to jump it again. Voltage on battery at rest is 12.5+ V every time I check with multimeter. Took it to AutoZone a bit ago and they hooked up their gadget and told me it’s the starter that’s bad. Not the battery, not the alternator. But I personally think it’s an issue with connection at the terminal. Just like you, I’ve tightened em down as much as I can but the terminal looks as though it’s misshapen so it’s not hugging the post as fully as it could be. And aside from not being able to start it each time I need to go somewhere (without the help of a jump) I am having a weird issue with one of the door locks. I have a recent post about that, but basically the door in question will lock and unlock perfectly fine when the engine is running and also when the car is in Ignition mode, but won’t work at all when the car is in accessory mode or fully off. Haven’t had any luck figuring out what’s causing that and I’ve tried the obvious fixes to no avail. Makes me suspect that it’s part of a larger electrical issue I’m having that’s now manifesting with the trouble I’m suddenly having getting car to start.
That sucks bro. It seems like with our cars, because of all the electrical components powering it all, if there’s a hint of looseness on the terminal, it really affects our cars more so than say a Toyo Corolla. So if you can barley wiggle the terminal and it moves, it will affect its charging and starting ability.

After further inspection, I see that I have a hairline crack at the terminal after cleaning it up, but I was able to open up the terminal pretty wide carefully for now, and slide it down the post of the battery. I tightened up the terminal pretty strongly and now there’s no slack or any movement. So far so good the car is starting great. But I did order a new terminal and will install it once it gets here due to the crack at the terminal.

It now feels like the car has way more power too in terms of acceleration since the connections are fully secured.

Fingers crossed as an another work week approaches.

glad to hear it, hope it stays that way! Keep us posted, hoping I can solve the puzzle I’ve got going on with mine. But for now I made my very first service appointment at my local Lexus dealer, in spite of having had three different Lexuses (Lexi?) (Lexusis?) before the current one. Hope they don’t try to hose me too bad. 😥

I’m sure it has to be the terminal. You honestly don’t have to take it to a dealer for someone to diagnose the problem. Is the terminal slightly loose when you try to wiggle it? If so, this has to be the issue. I’ve been driving my car around the past few days and it has started up perfectly now. No random dead battery. I was about to install an alternator and waste a bunch of money, it’s good that I noticed the loose connection before hand and have saved myself hundreds of dollars in the process.
