Quick repair post on the issue with the overhead console sunglasses holder switch not holding the door closed. It is repairable. The switch is made of some very thin breakable plastic. The design is probably way more complicated than necessary.
it is possible to repair the switch by bonding the breaks in the plastic, and then reinforced with some additional adhesive. I used 15 minute JB Weld plastic two part epoxy. Cleaning was a must since there is lubricant in the switch. Do not use acetone as it will melt the switch plastic. I used engine degreaser followed by alcohol and it worked.
I did the bonding in two parts. Take the entire unit apart including the pin and the spring. First bond the breaks in the plastic. And then bond the reinforcements. The cavity that houses the switch is tight so you need be strategic where to put the reinforcement.
For the initial bond, I used a razor knife about an hour in the adhesive set to remove excess adhesive. Then let cure for several hours before reassembly. Reassembled and tested the switch slide properly - remove adhesive carefully as needed for proper function. Then added the reinforcement and waited about an hour before removing excess. Test fit into the cavity and remove adhesive as necessary. I pressed the switch periodically over the next few hours to make sure I didn’t bond the bond the switch together.
The switch with reinforcement is a good deal more robust than without. And there is sufficient room to add.
