Just a quick question, I have a set of winter wheels with some X-ice tires now on them and don't like the color or style but if they were black I would dislike them less.
I read that pc could affect the wheel structurally especially if they have been annealed but I have no experience with this stuff so I'm looking for info from people who've had their oem wheels done. Can't get new wheels cuz the wife would have a bird. These are the wheels...
While I haven't had it done myself, the temperature in the ovens are typically 400F. Unlikely that any wheel metal would be affected by this temp. The metal should have low porosity to avoid bubbles in the PC. That's where your request for Lexus rim quality experience will really come in handy. Hoping you get more info and can share the journey. It'll be great if you do this!
I would've got another set like the car came with when I got it but was quoted $1700 per wheel which is redonkulous but they are decent looking wheels.
yeah, factory wheels are crazy expensive unless you're trying to sell yours. Hoping you get some responses here. Read the link, the guy who thought the rubber tires were getting put into 400 degree ovens was pretty misinformed yet convinced he had a valid point.
My wheels have been PC'd about 6-7 years. I've changed the finish 3 times (the 1st time they screwed up the color). I changed it after the 2nd finish after I got bored of the color...
Anyhow, no issues whatsoever.
Get em semi gloss black. I was going to go full gloss, but the owner talked me out of it, as he stated the first time you use a dirty rag to wipe em down, you'll have instant scratches.
Good idea, I was thinking flat black but not sure how that would look. We're getting our first snow today so if it turns into full blown winter right away I may have to wait. I'm guessing oem Lexus wheels are polished aluminum right? The place I will take them to tells me they don't do chrome and or magnesium because they have to send them out to get stripped and it add $200 per wheel to the cost.
It's only $110 a wheel surprisingly and they've been in business here for 35 years, plus the cost of R&R tires balance and new tpms at some tire shop. Last time at the dealer it cost $515 for 4 tpms, mounting and balance and $18 for weights and supplies...I bought the winter tires and wheels from them also, can't win with those pirates.
I think semigloss would compliment the black trim around windows better than flat. Good pricing. Pretty sure they are aluminum. Magnesium wouldn't make sense on a heavy sedan. They are usually for light performance cars.

@Gerf yeah, no flat. Just plastidip them if you want a flat finish.
Obviously not in the sun, but semi gloss will look nice w/ ur car.
I’ll PM you later w/ an outdoor shot when they’re all cleaned up.

Coincidently this thread was just posted in a Ferrari forum. It seems like powder coating worked for him and his car is running 612 HP. So you are probably safe.
I'm now asking myself why I didn't do this earlier this year...
But hey, check out my truck...a concrete pole came outa nowhere and rubbed against the side when my wife was at the mall. funny thing is if she had waited till today she would've had the perfect excuse.
