Default Need practical Life/control arms advice

Hello fellow forum-goers,

I am a college student making good money at in internship, and I was recently able to get a 2007 LS460 in very nice condition, 154,000 miles. I took it to the dealership for an oil change and inspection, and they recommended the control arms be replaced within a year or so if I want to keep it long-term (which I do!). I also do need new tires soon, which inclines me to do control arms now then tires.

I am happy to DIY this, but the parts recommended on this forum (OEM from improved model years, 2012-2017) total ~$2,700 for all 8 control arms where I checked.

I could spend that, but I still have a year of school left and I’m not sure it’s wise to drop that much cash - I need to be saving. Can I get away with buying aftermarket parts, and then do it right when I start my career in a year or so? Do I even need to worry about doing it right away? There’s no apparent driving issues or noises, to me at least.

Any wisdom is appreciated!

since you already bought it, check the tires yourself see if you really need to change them now you might still have a season or 2 left maybe you don’t need to change them right away..

I don’t trust dealers from personal experience

Have you checked the prices on Megazip.net yet? Since this is a DIY project you should be able to get the OEM cheaper from Japan even with shipping figured in.

If the car is tracking properly and tires wearing evenly I would not worry as it's the bushings that go out and not the ball joints. Mine have made noise for about 40k miles but tires and tracking are fine. I'm sure would be a tighter if replaced bit I can is a luxury and not a necessity. Many People here paid 95k for theirs and others less than 15k, two very different classes of people.

I didn't find any real differences between OE and Delphi arms, I ordered 1 from every single brand to compare and end up deciding that Delphi was the OE maker or so close the castings were identical so I put 8 of their arms on.

Amayama has all 8 for around $1800. I'd go OEM. I don't want to play Dad but a 150k mile LS isn't a car for a college kid on a budget. Hell, I'm not sure if it for me at mid-life making decent money. I get the desire for them, though. Go overseas for OEM to save and DIY if you're mechanically inclined. There isn't an option to get a second opinion with the car on the rack and the tech showing you in person that they're bad; if so, go OEM. That's my option.
