As we know on this forum, our GPS system is quite outdated and limited. I'm a realtor and need a dedicated GPS and NOT my iphone. For those out there using a dedicated GPS unit, which one would you recommend? I of course need something that will adhere to my windshield securely (I live in hot Florida) and gives me traffic alerts etc. I've had a Garmin in the distant past, but would fall off of the windhshield....There are many to choose from and none are very expensive $100-$300. Anyone out there using one and which would they recommend? I just want one that stays secure to the mount ( windshield) and is easy to use and understand. I DO NOT WANT TO USE MY PHONE! Thanks all.
Hm.... this is a tricky one as you don't want to use your phone, I find Waze is best and free for live traffic. Anything Garmin/ Tomtom would be a hassle as maps will eventually get outdated and not sure how good the live traffic is. I don't think the falling off the windshield thing is solvable. Unless your unit is very light, but even then my dash cams will still fall off on hot/ winter months unless you buy one that has 3m mount.
I have a 5 year old TomTom Via52 that updates the map whenever an update is available and I am in range of the home WiFi.
I've never used the Live Traffic as it uses your cellphone to get the data and there is a monthly charge for it.
It sticks well to the windscreen but we don't get heat/sun like ya do in FL.
Since it's a ball mount you can get other types of mount for it to put it wherever you want it.
The most effective would probably be a beanbag mount that sits on your dash and the sucker sticks to that. https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/navigat...beanbag-mount/
The menus are fairly user friendly and can be customised so you can put your most used functions on one screen.
Prior to the TomTom I had a Garmin and it did the job but had to be removed and plugged into a PC to update the maps, and Garmin wanted an annual subscription for that so too expensive for me.

We put our Garmins in a drawer and should put them in the trash. . Nothing works as well as navigation phone apps or phone apps through CarPlay or Android Auto as long as you have cell phone reception. Garmin was a near total fail a couple of years ago in Seattle.in a rental car. Google Maps on Android was unbelievably great. Waze might have been even better.
It might be worth having a second phone for navigation if you don't want to use your primary phone. Adding an additional phone to an existing plan can be inexpensive.
As for mounting, try a single use removable 3M adhesive disc on your dashtop but be sure to allow it to cure for at least 48 hours before you stick a suction cup to it. The attached photo shows an iOttie wireless charging device holder with its suction cup stuck to an adhesive disc in one of vehicles. We have the same setup in all our vehicles..
