Default Steering shimmy

My steering has what I’d describe as a shimmy when turning quickly left or right. It makes an audible knock. I’ve looked up under the dash and it seems to have a source that it right behind the airbag in between the side toggle controls. There is also a jarring feeling when hitting a bump, but that feels closer to the rack and pinion. Anyone else had these issues? Know the part numbers or procedures. I’m about to do a topic search on steering.

The jarring feeling when hitting small bumps.... I have the exact same issue and in my searches here I am going to try steering rack bushes first, genuine here in Australia is pricey so I am seeing if I can get daizen bushes sent over.

Just to let you know, I just replaced my steering rack bushings with Daizen Poly Bushings and had no improvement. The poly bushings introduced some NVH and steering feel, but largely no difference. Most online sources cite poor alignment as the primary cause of bump steer but my front end alignment is within spec. so the source is tbd.

Regarding the noise from the steering column, read this post. I posted photos of my fix at #74.
To sum it up, the lower u-joint in the steering column wears over time, and develops play. I was getting bad feed back (rattling noise) on the freeway when I would drive over a rough patch. Hanging the shaft from zip ties solved the problem by keeping the shaft centered (it can't bounce around anymore), but I over tightened the zip ties, which makes the steering heavy.
After many miles driving on the "zip tie steering rattle fix", I was concerned that the 2 zip ties I installed were too tight, and causing drag on the steering wheel (my steering is much heavier than I prefer). I checked this today, and found that the zip ties were still tight; however they added no detectable steering drag. I confirmed by jacking up the front end (wheels off the ground) and steering the wheel left/right with the engine off and on, and then cutting the zip ties and steering the wheel back and forth. I could not tell any difference between the smoothness or effort of steering the wheel with the zip ties on or off.
With the zip ties off, I can hear and feel "looseness" in the steering shaft when I wiggle the steering wheel left/right. With the zip ties installed, the audible and physical steering rattle is gone.
I was going to upgrade the zip tie hanger fix to a ball bearing and support plate, but now I believe the bearing support will not add much over the simple zip tie hanger.
