Default Messed up rear bumper (WITH PHOTOS)

Hey guys,

Yesterday, my dumba** decided to drift a non-drifting car. Long story short, I ended up crashing the rear bumper on my '05 LS430 into the guard rail. Thankfully, the damage is not THAT bad, but it's still damaged, and let's just say I won't be doing any more stupid driving for a while now, lesson learned.

Here are some photos of the damage:

As you can tell, it's mainly the bottom end of the rear bumper that took all the damage, as well as both mufflers and exhaust tips. I guess the only positive side to this accident was that my car is a bit louder now
The mufflers aren't very much an issue (since I was planning on doing a muffler delete anyways) relative to the bumper, which I am definitely not happy about.

So I was wondering whether you guys know if this is a fixable accident, and I say fixable as in taking it to a local body shop and having them repair/refurbish the bumper. I only say this cause I was searching for OEM LS430 bumpers and saw that they were pretty pricey, so I figured that I'd rather it get fixed than buy a whole new part and wait for 2-3 weeks for it to come.

I found this website that offers the OEM bumper for about 380 bucks, but there's an approximately $230 shipping fee, which I'm not really willing to pay as of now. Also FYI, if I do end up buying the OEM bumper, I'll do the installing myself. Money isn't as much of an issue as the hassle of it is, since I'm not even sure if the part comes with the exhaust tip slits. I assume it does since the caption says "component comes unprimed from OEM," but the picture doesn't show it so I'm not 100% sure.

Here's the link:

https://www.oemvehicleparts.com/oem-...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

Please let me know if a body shop can refurbish the bumper, and once again, thank you to all the Club Lexus members for your insightful tips and help, couldn't do it without you guys. Let me know if you need more photos or information.

Labour to fix that will be way more than a replacement bumper. This is one of those times where you walk into a local dealer and bite the bullet and buy the OE part retail, will be cheaper than online+shipping. The OEM bumper covers I've bought came raw, no primer nothing maybe it is different for this part. A body shop might be happy to paint the cover loose off the car (don't have to worry about masking) I would call around.

Muffler delete = very bad on a cloud of a car like this cheapens the entire experience, don't do it. My opinion.

I see. Do you think Lexus dealers will have this part all ready to go? Also, if I happen to get it from the dealer, will the bumper cover be exactly like how it was on my car (of course without the primer and paint), meaning that it would have both of the exhaust slots?

Thanks

Part will be identical to yours except no paint, I see two part numbers with or without sonar. The chrome trim piece will need to be transferred over. Lexus dealer won't have the part will need to be ordered. Here the Lexus dealer is "weird" when I go to order parts they act like I'm an alien invader or something but they do order the parts for me. They are not rude or anything, I'm guessing hardly anyone walks in to order parts outside of consumables like wipers and the like.

Ha that's pretty funny actually. One last question, though. Do they charge for the ordering and how long does it normally take?

Thank you

No local dealer charges shipping as far as I know. Shipping time depends on where the part is, parts from California (seems to be where the largest warehouses are) to Alberta takes 4 days. The parts system says where the part is and how many available.

I've done this before. I have two LS 430's. The rear bumper cover is a pretty common repair.

One time I had the bumper cover repaired. Bondo cracked. I'll be getting a new cover from now on.

Find an independent body shop. Have them do the work, including paint. Use an aftermarket chrome strip. No big deal.

Thanks Loren, that’s actually great to know. I guess I won’t use body filler. Won’t it be more expensive to have a body shop do all the work, rather than buying the part from a Lexus dealer, having a shop only paint it, and then installing it myself?

Default Rear bumper paint

This is part 2 of my most recent thread. Recently I damaged the rear bumper on my '05 LS430 and earlier today I went over to my local Lexus dealer to see how much the bumper would be. Being the money loving thieves that they are, they asked for $706 just for a bumper (how bout you give me a brand new set of coil overs instead)? Anyways, I then headed over to a body shop that someone recommended to me and they told me the OE rear bumper for my car is no more than about $580, however, they told me that the paint job for the bumper will be approximately $750, which seems legit, but it's a bit questionable and most definitely expensive (please let me know if the cost is normal, thanks).

So, I decided to see what it would take to paint it myself. I figured out the paint code for my car which is C10 (millennium silver metallic). I found this:

https://www.brandsport.com/dupl-bty1...hoCaAkQAvD_BwE

I was wondering whether any of you guys know how exact DupliColor paint colors are to OE colors in general for any car. Any experiences? Good? Bad? I'd love to know.

I'm just worried that since the bumper is made of plastic and the body is made of metal, the different surfaces may display different shades that will end up matching. Or maybe sun exposure can cause the spray paint to fade, no matter how much clear coat I use. I may be sounding stupid right now, but I'm just not sure, nor am I experienced in this field, so I'd really appreciate some guidance from people who have painted their own LS parts with or without DupliColor, with preferred, though.

Thanks again to all the Club Lexus members, I can never get enough of your guys' help, really appreciate it.

Personally I'd start out looking for a bumper on eBay and at recyclers to see if a good condition rear bumper can be had in your colour.
I know that the LS is not common but you never know, and the silver is a pretty common colour for these.

$750 just to paint the bumper cover seems high. Suggest you get some other quotes. Silver is among the most difficult colors to match, so this is something best left to a pro.

Your results will not be great painting a whole bumper with that. You need to be able to prep, prime, paint, clear, and sand/polish the whole thing to match lexus factory paint - a diy job on a whole bumper will look like a diy job.
if cost is an issue I would look at a non OEM bumper, or a used junkyard/ebay bumper, and try to save money on the part rather than the paint

As Ellesse mentioned....repainting a bumper is a procedure in order for it to come out looking good. Besides, removal and prep, the paint should be baked on, and depending upon the rest of the car's paint, matching can be a challenge. Good luck, regardless.
