I have a LS 430 2001. I've narrowed my problem down to the brake lamp located in the trunk lid portion of the lamp system. Nether right or left come on when the pedal is pushed.
Checked one bulb, it appeared ok. It was, checked fuse #17, stop lamps, even though the outer brake lights were working. Fuse looks ok, replaced anyway. Nothing. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a busted wire.
Check the wiring where the trunk lid cabling bridges the hinges to connect to the rest of the car.
That is the most common place for this kind of fault on most cars.
