Automatic Rear View Mirror Problems
2004 LS430,58,000 mil. Automatic rear view mirror button on left side of steering wheel has three settings. 1. Pressed down to the right the mirrors stay closed 2. Pressed all the way to left the mirrors stay open 3. Left level and not pressed to either side the mirrors open when car starts and close when the car is turned off. For many years I have left it flush to auto open and close with no problem. I drove the car every 1 to 3 days. This time I did not use the car for 2 weeks and even with the button in my standard flush position the rear view mirrors do not open. I have to manually press the button to the left to open them. Then I put the button back to the level/ flush position and it automatically closes when I turn off the car. Does anyone know what is going on? Thank you for your help.
Yeah, what RKW said! I had the same problem just last week.
The car had been standing for weeks due to the lock-down and really didn't want to start, but it coughed to life, just.
Once it had run for a bit the mirrors worked normally on shutdown and startup.
Once I had done the shopping I needed to do, I plugged in a charger and fully charged the battery.
When all this crap is over, I may well replace the battery just to be sure.

Thanks guys. I think you are right on the mark. The only thing different I did do was not use the car for over two weeks straight due to this crazy lock down. I'm going to take the car for a long drive to try to charge up the battery.
As I said I took the car for a ride, 15min. one way and 15min. back on I 95. Mirrors work Fine with recharged battery. I had called several Lexus dealers for info. on this. They all had no idea on what was wrong and told me to bring it in. This is a common sense matter which they should have known. I credit this Forum with saving it's members tons of money over the years. Thanks again guys for another job well done.
