For years I used a winter beater CR-V with snow tires for this purpose but it rusted out so bad and had tons of little problems popping up. Brake and power steering lines rusted right through, rusted evap canister, door bottoms started to rust. Rear brakes were always seizing up. Between fixing all these things and paying insurance on it I would much rather buy winter tires for my LS which has much better rust proofing. Except for the dreaded door trim rust. With winter tires I expect it will go as well as a CRV with all seasons. Gave the CRV to a family member and I'm happy to not be wrenching it.
