Default How to replace cam seal

I’m doing the timing belt water pump service on
u 05 ls430. Noticed some seepage from the cam vvt sprocket.

I wanted to know if I can get to the seal by removing the vct sprocket or do I need to remove the valve covers? Can’t find any info on this. Thanks

Not only do you need to remove the valve covers the entire camshaft has to come out! The main cam seal, which is serviceable, is no picnic but it's doable if you know what you're doing.
There's also an O-ring seal INSIDE the vvt gear itself which is not supposed to be a serviceable item but some have done it. Lexus doesn't sell this O-ring only as they recommend replacing the entire gear.
Here's a vid for the vvt gear seal-

Thanks for the info! I think I’ll be passing on this service. Is the crank seal pretty straight forward?

Crank seal is a straight forward job since your doing the timing belt.
