Default 2004 LS430 trunk release under left side dash does not work?

My 2004 LS430 with 57,000 miles, the left under dash trunk release button just stopped working. I tried it a few times but NG then I tried the trunk release button on my key and that did not work either. I shut off the car and then turned it back on . The key then worked but the under dash button is still dead. Called Lexus they told me to open my glove box and push the button The only problem is there was no button in the glove box. What should I do to get the inside trunk release to work ? Thank you...

Is your car battery dead? If so, I think the trunk release lever does not work..

Thanks but battery is fine. Everything else works fine except the front button trunk release.

You may have accidentally pushed in the "Main Switch", which renders the trunk lid opener lever inoperable. You will need to insert your metal key to re-activate the lever. Please refer to the diagram below...

Thanks RKW . Looks like a plan. Appreciate the diagrams . Just had a serpentine belt replaced don't know what these guys did but I know I never put my key in that key entry but I'll try it and see what happens...

Trunk Problem Resolved. Put key in and turned counterclockwise and done. But what I don't understand is for all these years the trunk button worked and I never inserted my key in that key hole before. Why would the trunk now just stop working and I now for the first time had to use my key to get it to work ?? Thanks again RKW for your help.

You're most welcome! Glad it was an easy fix.

As Bsavage pointed out, your mechanic probably accidentally pushed the button in. Please note that you do not need a key to push the button in to disable the trunk release - only when you want to pop it back out to re-enable the trunk release.
