Hello everyone,
I got a P0353 engine code and decided to replace coil C. I am a complete car noob but I decided I wanted to do this, looked up how to do it and it seems fairly simple. Take the engine cover off, unplug the coils, remove the 10 mm bolts and take the coils out. However I can't for the life of me remove the plug or the bolt. The plug isn't budging no matter how much I push and the bolt keeps slipping. Any ideas?
The bolt should be pretty easy to remove, just your basic 10 mm.
I found the easiest way to remove the coil plugs from the packs was to squeeze the tab with a pair of needle nose pliers and lift up. I couldn’t remove all of them with just my fingers either
Hmm, I'll try the pliers. The socket is slipping on the bolt head, the bolt isn't moving. It fits on correct so I don't think either the socket or bolt is messed up.
DO NOT PULL ON THE PLUG WIRES. You'll unseat them and really be screwed. Use quality pliers to squeeze the tab like so and pull up.
As for the socket, make sure it is the correct size and make sure you are using a quality socket and going righty-tighty/lefty-loosey. If your bolts are starting to round off from failed attempts, it may be time to invest in better quality tools, though honestly, the torque value on the COP bolts is really low so I'm not sure why you're having trouble.
Just want to add that for the bolt, assuming you have the correct socket size, I would recommend using a six point socket, and of course good quality tool is a must. You do not want to keep trying with the same socket and round off that bolt.
hopefully you can get this taken care of. but i must say, when i replaced the plugs on my car, the plug for the coil was tough to take off. take your time & be careful (that's what i had to do) and it will come off. like others have said, definitely don't pull on the wires going into the harness. good luck.
