Got my first check engine light today...
Well after a little over two years I got my first check engine light on today. Came up as P0133 on the scanner which is for HO2S11 Circuit Slow Response. I was planning on replacing my O2 sensors this spring as a preventative maintenance task anyway but it looks like I'll have to accelerate this. The bad news is that we just got six inches of fresh snow on the ground so that everything under the car is going to be a mess not to mention that the temps have fallen drastically compared to the relatively mild winter temps we have be experiencing lately.
The good news is that I got to finally drive this car in the snow and actually have a little bit of fun with it now that the traction control system has been disabled. I've always despised the fact that you can't disable that system manually whenever you feel like driving the car closer to its limits...

Well the good news is the 02 sensors are extremely well protected. I had to do a pass side upstream this summer, grabbed a denso off rock auto I believe. After cursing and saying wtf for 5 min, then not finding anything online about it, I found n extremely convenient access panels in the wheel well. Take those off and boom, access. My 172k mile sensor came off with no fuss, probably since my engine underbody panels are still on.
I literally just got home from driving in snow and wanted to make a post about these cars and snow. We got ice under about an inch of snow, white out driving conditions 30mph gusts, it's still coming doen. Put my 04 in snow mode, and my nitto motivos did great. I'm not a super aggressive driver in snow but a lot of people in 4wd vehicles were driving like pussies. These cars do pretty good with the weight and snow mode. Hills didn't even give me many problems. Tire spin, but if you can't handle spin rwd isn't for you. I got rid of my 4wd truck and was worried, but the ls430 does just fine.

Yep good luck I had always heard one can live with a faulty knock sensor, but not to do that with 02 sensors....
I've never plugged in any cars except my Maxima. Then I realized my fancy BMW factory software didn't show I/M readiness--and I was just concerned since I was going for the emissions test and had reset some maintenance items. Just wanted to confirm that doing so didn't reset I/M, and it had not. I just know that the service engine soon on the Maxima was like hitting the head in a bar--once the seal breaks it's like you have to keep going back....

A little over 141K miles now. What's funny is that a couple of hours after I ordered the parts from Rockauto and also blasting around on the snow covered streets without having to fight the TCS, the CE light went off and hasn't turned back on since. I guess that means I might not have to crawl under the engine until things thaw up around here. That, I wouldn't mind...
