New Navi Disk, New Navi Problem (Dirty laser?)
So I decided to shell out the money for a 110% certified OEM Denso DVD Navigation update disk, the last of the last, the 2015 update. I followed the steps to uncover and spit out the old disk, which was surprisingly the first gen 2001 disk, and replaced it with the new one. Things went smooth and the update worked until I get in the car the following night and pressed the OK to the Warning Message to have it wait a while before saying "NO DISK DETECTED" I read up and tested the unit, heard it spool up the disk and read, but still "NO DISK DETECTED" but I believe it to be a dirty laser head and its having trouble reading. I took the unit apart the best I could, undoing the cover and giving the board a thorough cleaning getting rid of any dirt or dust, but was unable to take apart the DVD unit within.
Best bet to send it to a tech specialist to have it checked and cleaned or.... ? *!*!*PROBLEM FIXED*!*!* Took it to my local Lexus dealer and they gave the DVD unit a thorough cleaning, re-calibrated the machine and got it working again. |
Bad Disk. Had no problems with my update disk.

When I bought my disks from Ebay they sent me both regions. I have to use the western nav disk but have the eastern nav if you would like it. Send me a private message
for your address and I will mail it off to you. I would bet it works. |

I tend to agree that it’s most likely a disc problem. If you got it from an authorized dealer you should be able to return it for another. That way you will confirm it’s a disc problem. Did you get it from the dealer or a vendor online? |

So I shelled out the money to have it looked over and what the dealership did was just give the DVD player a thorough cleaning, re-calibrated it and got it working. Thanks so much for the help guys!!

I did the exact same thing a few months ago!
Was on 12.1 but thought I should get final version 15.1. Bought on eBay but had dealer install when in for a service, no charge to do. Glad I did it! |

They definitely shouldn't charge you to simply eject the old disc and insert the new disc. It really is that simple, other than removing one or two case screws on the LS trunk DVD drive. I have replaced the Nav disc several times on both ES 330 and LS 430. Only takes a few minutes.

I bought a disc before I got my car, from eBay. It didn't even occur to me that it may not be factory authorized. When it came, it looked like it were from Toyota and the latest available for 10/16 (maybe it was late '15 don't remember). Worked fine.
I would say if old disc worked, new does not, put old back in. If it works again then you know. It was a little bit of a pita but not a big deal, though I would not update again. Just checked eBay and I paid $12.95. p.s when I think about it the label looked genuine not printed off of a ink jet or anything. Prolly like old never been opened cell phones, they wind up on a secondary market. New 2016 Gen 4 Toyota Lexus Navigation Map GPS Update DVD Version 15.1 U30 US $12.95 |

Do you know what they did to clean it? I took my old one apart when it was having issues reading discs and didn't have any luck. I replaced mine with a used unit and so far so good.
However, the first 2 times the unit fired up again with "NO DISK DETECTED" but after the 3rd it found the disk and did its thing. Sadly, that was only short lived as the next day, and still is doing "NO DISK DETECTED" That was a waste of cash. And I got more in the pipe line, need to refresh my front suspension and all 4 brakes rotors and pads. |
