This is my other toyota for when I want to go fast. A 1979 RA40 celica with a 1JZGTE VVTI and 5 speed conversion. Very quick and fun car to drive.

My daily driver is a '16 Sienna while my wife's is a RAV4 Hybrid. These were our first new Toyotas after a long history of buying Hondas.

My mom had a Celica GT coupe with a 20R when she was young. I have no clue but I would guess the car had 85 hp, 5 spd, tape deck, equalizer, Jensen 6x9, Hella fogs, AC and maybe manual steering?

I have never owned another Toyota product, am not partial to them, but I did hear the all new Corolla will have an intelligent manual, and I prefer sticks. Corvette and 911 are too expensive right now, so never say never maybe I would get a '21 Corolla with stick. Another thing I do like about Toyota is when you get OE parts, many of them say made in Japan. That was a pipe dream with OE Nissan parts, many said USA and Philippines, and were not the same quality as what came with the car in 1998 (brake rotors were awful--Nissan boxes, made in USA, no extractor holes like original, prolly sourced out).

when i was young, i drove my parent's 1990 4Runner and kind of "inherited" it to the point where i was the only driver of it. put that truck through hell. lifted it, lowered it, put hydraulics on it, then put it back to stock and drove it for a while stock. very reliable. i think it was about 300k on the odometer when we got rid of it.

about the time my wife bought the LS430, i bought a 2001 GS430. very clean lower mileage for what it was. wish i would have kept it, but i wanted a 4WD family vehicle. so i traded it for a Yukon (i know i kick myself).

and prior to my wife getting the LS430, she had a 2004 ES330. that thing was completely stock. sold it when it had 219k miles on it. and still nothing was wrong with it. wish i had kept that for a daily driver for myself back then.

Toyota/Lexus has been very good to us, and i'm sold. even to the point, i'm thinking about selling my S40 and getting a Toyota product to keep in it's place.

Loved my 1997 Toyota Avalon XLS. Traded it for my 2002 LS430.

I had my 1993 SC300 before my LS and it was the first Toyota anyone in my family. I bought a mint condition 2001 ES300 from my job last year and sold it to my stepdad six weeks later. I miss that car so much that I bought a clean 1999 ES300 from one my friend at work.

I need to put a new engine in my ES but I’ve slowly been modding it. I put on 2001 taillights, LED’s, black interior parts, and I have a new radio for it. I plan to get it running, put on a custom exhaust, and lower it.

I drove my sister’s 2002 LS430 around before she got her drivers license. I’ve also had a few LX470’s and an LS460 from my job while my cars were in the shop.

In 1998 I bought a new 4-Runner. Through out the years I though about getting something different but just couldn't part with it. It is such a great winter car and so reliable. I will keep it the rest of my life.
By the way, I feel the same about my 02 430 UL.

Wow that Celica is super clean! I have to admit I laughed a little when you said it was the car you drove when you wanted to go fast and then I saw the 1J lol. That thing has got to be a fun drive.

I used to have an ST190 Corona (90's Celica platform and running gear), real low miler but it started having transmission issues so I sold it for peanuts, and had an AE101 Corolla FXGT with the silvertop 20v 4A GE, and that was a clapped out heap of junk, it'd lost a heap of compression overall, had no stem seals left, and would burn 2qt of oil (20W-50 too) every few thousand miles. It ended up getting totaled by a 2008 Camry, got hit real hard up the *** and pushed the boot floor in a good 6 inches. Before that I was (still am) a Ford man

We get those as the Hilux Surf down here, with a variety of engines. 3Y, 4Y, 22R-E/TE (if you're lucky), 2L-E, 2L-T/TII,TE, 3L, 3VZ, 5VZ, 3RZ, 1KZ-TE (that's the engine to have, and plop a Landcruiser Prado intercooler on it to make it survive), and conversion kits to drop a 1UZ in the hole are everywhere (we never got them factory fitted with the 2UZ). The last 4 Runner that came here was the 3rd Gen N180 series, with some rare 4th gen JDM imports popping up now and then. A guy I know has an early 2nd gen Surf that originally had a 3Y in it, but it was his off road mud machine. It has 33" Simex muddies, chassis and body lift and lockers all round and it never got stuck anywhere, even with a piddly little 2 litre petrol engine. Its since been swapped to a hybrid 2L-T/3L engine (3L engine with 2L turbo and fuel system) and goes stupid places. Its rare to find a tidy one like yours here, they've mostly been used and abused as beach or bush trucks, full of rust and not really worth much money

Your Celica is freaking cool!! I bet that's a fun one to drive. I had one similar to that, not that nice of course, back in my early college days and it was a cool beater car back then. I ended up selling it to a friend and upgraded to an '87 Turbo Supra that I kept for about 5 years. The Celica traded hands of a few people I knew that beat the crap out of it and it just kept on running.

Back in the mid 90's I had a 4 Runner for a little while but it was too small for me, had no power, and got terrible gas mileage. I got rid of it after about 6 months of ownership.

What's interesting about older cars, is, obviously most had RWD....but also, they had a solid live axle. So handling was nothing like today. When I watch old episodes of "CHiPs," I find it comical how many times cars spin out in one episode....

p.s. gotta love the music, reminds me of a **** film! (lots of bass hahahaha)

I drove three different MR2 Spyders over the course of fifteen years. This was my last, with a body kit.
