techstream device
That's a link to one I purchased a couple weeks back and it's working great. The hard part is getting the cable's driver to work on a 64bit OS. If you've got a laptop with XP laying around it'll save you alot of hassle. I had to look at a few different guides on how to force the driver to install windows 8 on my bigass Dell latitude because some weren't very clear. I'm trying to get an old tiny netbook from my sister so that I can just keep it in the car/garage along with the cable.
I really hate to be a spoil sport, but please keep in mind that the software included with the cable sold on amazon.com is pirated, or put less kindly, stolen from Toyota. I have examined the mini CD shipped with the cable and it does contain malware. If you choose to install this pirated software please, please do yourself a favor and only install on a computer that does not connect to your home network, has no access to the internet, and contains no information you would not gladly hand over to an identity thief. Protecting IP and data security have been my business for decades and I can guarantee you that others who have loaded this pirated software have had their home networks and private financial information compromised.
Please give serious consideration to not purchasing pirated software on amazon.com or anywhere else.

In any case you really just need a cable to be able to use techstream so If you don't wan to risk malware with the cd I'm sure you can find a safe download somewhere online.

Yeah, nope. I'll be perfectly happy with my Amazon-sourced copy.
since I am still dealing with this issue on my recently acquired Techstream version I bought on Amazon I could use some help.
The version that shipped installed OK on a XP laptop. I am able to talk to the car and can view trouble codes but I am unable to customize any settings. The tab that is supposed to be displayed is not there. I am using version 12..20.024 and from my exhaustive searching it appears this version does not support customization.
I have asked the seller if he has another older version. Still waiting on a reply.
Can anyone help me find another version that will allow customization?

" Um, have you seen how much it costs to buy it from Toyota? Yeah, nope. I'll be perfectly happy with my Amazon-sourced copy." That is to say your illegal, stolen copy of Toyota's IP.
Are we really saying that the cost of authentic software justifies buying pirated (STOLEN) software? I really hope not. Let's not fool ourselves, if you buy the cable with pirated software you are buying stolen property, nothing more and nothing less. Please don't try to justify buying pirated, stolen copies of software because you don't want to pay the owner's price. That argument, if applied to all commerce, would justify any theft and illegal duplication as long as the authentic item's cost was "too high".
The cable is only a connection between your car's systems and the copyrighted Toyota software. There are several programs that will read the codes that you can purchase legally, but only the Toyota software will do the deep diagnostics and customization you are after.
All of the vendors on both amazon.com and eBay.com are selling illegal, pirated software. No exceptions. The various versions of Techstream were cracked by Chinese hackers who were kind enough to include free malware with every copy. Again, no exceptions.
