I am supposed to deliver my 2002 UL to the guy buying it tomorrow, I am really torn about giving it up. The guy buying it has a high end lot (Aston martin, Lexus, MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, etc.), and doesn't have anything older than a 2012 vehicle (he does have a 2009 Bentley), but he wants my UL. He is giving me a decent price, since they don't bring much. If I had a third garage, I'd keep it. Best car I have ever owned. Silver, black, rosewood and factory chrome wheels. Only has 106,000 miles. I have every receipt of all my maintenance...even tire rotations. I added XM radio, as well as iPod adapter. He has been wanting it for a while, and when I took it over there, he didn't even want to test drive it.

I've had some nice cars...Range Rovers (last was a 1998 4.6 HSE), 911, LS400, but this LS430 is the best car I have ever owned. When I converted the suspension a couple of years ago, the ride and handling improved. Stupid to be so attached to a car, but it has been with me for the past twelve years (was a CPO).

 

You will regret it. I did. It was a happy day when I ditched that 460L and drove off in another 430. I still have it, and now a backup to go to whenever the current car goes to car heaven.

And it will go to car heaven. Without a doubt. Because that is where it came from. Crafted by the hands of God.

 

What will you be driving now?

 

I bought a 2015 Cayenne Diesel with 23,000 miles. A CPO car, and because of the VW scandal, there is additional warranty for two years post CPO and unlimited mileage. The additional dieselgate warranty is not bumper to bumper. It is drivetrain, fuel system and anything related to the diesel system.
If I had the third garage, I'd keep the LS.

 

A perfect low mileage UL w/ the suspension conversion? Maybe the car should have "engine trouble" or "run out of gas" . Build a car port for the Cayenne and keep the LS in the garage.

 

Im sure you'll miss it, but at least the replacement car isn't anything to scoff at

 

About 2 years ago I sold a '06 LS430 in mint condition on eBay and regretted it almost immediately after the buyer drove it away. It was absolutely perfect; but in a moment of weakness I thought that something newer would be better. Not! Since that time I've been looking to replace the sold LS with an identical one, which I did last month. I've spent the last several weeks doing maintenance and restoring the car to its original grandeur. The last thing that I need to do is a headlight restoration, which is slated for Wed. of this week.

 

What is interesting is that there are not many ultra's out there for sale. I have liked all of the toys, even though I don't need them. I don't like the air suspension. Lexus fir and finish is second to none, leather quality is incredible, and the paint quality is incredible. Is "ash" a black interior? I wonder why they didn't stick with the rosewood. I have always thought it is beautiful. I like the gray wood too.

 

Interesting how we are creatures of habit, right? I've never actually missed a car or anything, but a dog. And I do feel like when I replace something with the same item, but it is cheaply made compared to the old, that I wish the old one still worked. Never had such feelings for a car but then again, the 3 new and 1 used car purchased over the last 20 years, are still in the driveway! The others until 1998 were either free or cost $2,000, tops. lol

I wish I could help you. Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff.

You can only be happy in the present. The past will fail you. The future (life without an LS) will fail you. Sell the car. Go for a walk. Go for a bike ride. Make a good cup of coffee. Read a book. Life is short.

 

This is great advice, I can never see how what has become, today, could have happened any other way. We are our own persons, make decisions, mistakes, win, lose, etc. It's how it works.

Do I wish I had used some sort of thread sealant on my wife's tranny plug Sat., of course I do. Was it in anybody's instructions online? No. Is it in the shop manual, no. Are there people who did what I did and discovered a leak like I did, yes. Part of the learning process, how could it have unfolded any other way....seems like online people call it a tapered plug, another article said this is a difficult sealing situation. Easiest being parallel threads with a gasket (oil drain plug). Life is too short to not learn, and I can't see an LS having much to do with happiness in the big picture...

 

Am surprised no member here bought it, mafpolo. It sounds like it would have been a real deal for someone. Heck, I thought about it myself, but need another car like a hole in the head. Years ago, I bought several cars in the Birmingham area - you can't beat an Alabama car!

 

I appreciate all the advice and support. You guys have lightened the load. I really am having a first world problem. I can whine about this on this forum, but anywhere else, people would look at me like....people have real issues and problems. I will be staying on this forum. I'd miss it.

 

All true....here's my first world problem, a couple of them. I bought amazon stock in 1998 and sold it when it tripled. yeah, but if held, it would be 19X. I got facebook at the IPO, and continued to buy on the way down, scary. So I sold at $41 for a small profit, just before labor day weekend 2013. Just these two mistakes I dont' even want to say how much "missed money" that is. These are decisions that were made, that had justification at the time. Do I regret today? Of course. But time marches on, and missing out on money, that's an ok problem to have. Losing is worse! I bought some bank stocks during Brexit, those were good decisions. It may not even out, but there is always some positive with the negative....and we're fortunate to have decisions that we can make...my .02
