Default first problem in 16 1/2 mos of ownership

On the way home yesterday, left front park assist starts beeping for no reason. Then, when I would be behind someone, the fronts would have the four bars, in addition to the left front.

Conditions.....no snow/rain, not dirty to my knowledge, don't think it was frozen. Got out and cleaned, came back later. did a google search say what? $301 list each? hahahahahahahahahaha (I want to tell Scotty Kilmer that German cars are more expensive to repair than Japanese is a myth, just for giggles, Genuine BMW is $169). There's no way I could or would be willing to do that. But I would be willing to try one on eBay for $16. Why not?

Today, the problem was gone...but maybe thinking there's no issue is a false hope. Gonna look when I do the oil change today to see if the corner can be accessed from underneath, someone said yes....worst case is I turn it off. But I actually like the feature.

When it beeps fast, this is how close I would be to a car....can't do it without (obviously no front cam)

It's not unheard of for those sensors to fail. I haven't swapped one out, but plenty of guys have on here. Try adjusting the sensor distance and see what happens.

I had ours adjusted for maximum distance and every time my wife would go through the drive through at Starbucks, the sensors would scream out loud.. I adjusted the sensor for less sensitivity and turned the tone volume down on the touch screen. Now she doesn't turn the system off all the time..

If mine ever does that, I will just turn it off and drive normally like I always have without any assistance from the car and its fancy electronic gadgets.
But it sure does come in handy when I park in our underground heated garage.

Previous owner replaced one to the tune of about $450 according to the receipts I have. He used OEM Lexus parts.

I believe you can access the sonar sensor for replacement from the wheel well. Check out the link (see Post #8) below...

I had 2 sensors replaced by Toyota body shop with ebay ones under $8 each and they both work just fine. You can get exact color match and can't tell the difference.
OEM part was going to be almost $250/each.

Thanks all....I think there is likely a bad sensor. But it might be the left inside, not left corner...

Well I got the oil done, and was chasing the rain....saw that by doing the filter, I'm not really close to the sensor(s). Also noticed the big aluminum bumper (never did before).

Oddly, I noticed my left fog was not 100% tight, and the inside left corner sensor had flaky paint--these are smaller than the two in the middle. So I decided to scrape the paint all off, to see if maybe that would help, but no. Wonder if maybe this has been replaced before as the others don't have flaky paint? I mean I was able to flake it off with my finger nail. I know the previous owner(s) have scraped all bumpers/sides. The system did not act up going to the gym this AM, but it did when I did my oil change.

I was thinking that if it were cost prohibitive to fix, then I could keep it off, and turn it on when needed?

The good news is I'm getting pretty quick with the oil changes, this is probably the 4th, and I was 11 miles shy of my desired 6,500...didn't even bother to reset the reminder, but set the info screen instead ....I decided to only put 5 qts in, and will check tomorrow when cold. The other times I did 5.25 as I don't want to overfill....only 4.5 came out....some could be stuck to the drain pans...

p.s. sweet, my problem is definitely the left corner, and the thread shows that both would be accessible with the wheel and wheel liner removed! Maybe this summmer.....

Everything worked Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.....this AM, acted up again...commonality is low temps prior, when issue (although Sat was not cold)?

Also I misspoke....last Friday, the windshield was totally iced up in the morning, forgot about that. But the park assist worked morning, lunch, and acted up on the way home.

Funny thing is I was thinking, if it works fine when say 45F and higher, but starts acting up in the 30's, and I go to work on it spring/summer, I may end up replacing things, and come next winter, acts up again....oh well, something must be failing because there was never an issue last winter...my buddy keeps telling me you don't even need park assist, it's not like it's a Navigator or Suburban...lol

My left rear corner acted up several months ago and I went the eBay root. The sensor has worked fine for several months - through ice, snow and dirt. The color has started to fade (silver) a bit, bit not too shabby for $15.
