Default LCD fade in 01’ LS430 (apologies in advance)

Apologies because I’m a newbie and I fear this may have been discussed somewhere but I tried the search function and I couldn’t find anything except navi issues anywhere else on the forums.

The trip computer/system check screen just below the tach is starting to fade out from the left to right. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how they went about repairing it or replacing it without putting in an entire gauge cluster.
(In my best Ben Stein voice) “Anyone?, anyone?”
The selected screen is currently supposed to say “range over 456 mi”. You can clearly see that the word range no longer appears.

Most likely there is a bulb back there that has either a loose connection or failed. Hopefully RKW will chime in for you and let you know for sure. I did however find this... Looks right.

I have not replaced any of my instrument cluster lights, but I suspect the steps are very similar to those for the Toyota Camry shown in the YouTube video I found...

Have you replaced the lights were the shifter, heater controls, and radio are are they a normal bulb or do they require soldering?

Just a shot in the dark here, is there something covering that part of the display perhaps? Hard to tell with the picture...

Im going to take a guess, but the cluster under the tachometer and speedometer are not backlit, but are vacuum fluorescent (VFD). You may have to change the actual display module to restore it to fully-lit condition.

Default I had hoped.

I removed the cluster but on closer inspection I realized it appears to be burnt out as a part of the circuit board itself looks fried. I couldn’t figure out any way to repair it without taking the entire thing apart and that is way beyond my skill level so I looked at how much the gauge cluster itself would be and they average around $500 when new from a dealership.
I don’t mind certain things when they’re used like maybe an ashtray or a spare rim but electronic parts and gauges I would rather just bite the bullet and have a brand new part.

Thank you to everyone for your help. I’m new to the Ultra world but I’ve been lurking in the forums for a couple of years now. My 2002 LS430 was just totaled so I bought the ultra to replace it but like many others I’m sure, you can never really replace a car you grew attached to, but the ultra is a very nice car.

The radio does not seem to have any plug-in light bulbs. The shifter and heater control panel do.

Also take a look at the link below for other interior lights (Post #24 talks about soldering LED in switches)...
