Default 06 / 68k / Getting TB/WP done

I kept telling myself that I had till 90K despite the actual age of the car - but the fear of catastrophic failure, and the ensuing explanation to my wife - won out. Sitting in the lobby now, feeling like I dodged a bullet.

Indie shop in the Northern VA area: $850.

You had some time... but better to have that peace of mind than to be fretting it while you're driving.
Not a bad price. The belts are pretty tough, it's the other hardware the belt rides on that has a tendency to give out. Just make sure you do the idlers, seals and water pump at the same time and you'll be good for another 100k, or 68k in your case.

Take a look at the old belt. I was surprised at how perfect my TB was at 78k. Could have easily gone at least 50k more IMO. But as you said, the peace of mind is worth it.

I recently did my TB/WP at 131k. Original owner did not do it. My TB was in rough shape. Cracks aplenty. I am very happy I decided to not let it go and assume it had been done but not documented.

The belt was dry, but had more life left in it - it was the water pump and the tensioners that were shot/leaking.

Glad it's getting done.

Good decision after all. Now 100k miles of driving to look forward to.

Glad I did it - the owner also gave the car a free inspection. Aside from tires (which I new about) he said that the only thing it needed were new bushings (left/right) on the control arms. They're starting to show signs of cracking, but I probably have another year in them. Not too shabby!
