Thanks. I checked it while running just now and it was barely a half inch up from the bottom of the dipstick. I had only added back 2.5 quarts of approximately 3 warm quarts that drained out. I went ahead and added another quart and tried to check it again, but I guess it was too soon as the oil level appeared too high. Probably because I had just added some a few minutes prior. I will check it again in the morning.
I should probably know all these procedures, but I'm learning as I go. Thanks everyone for your patience with my ignorance!

I would say adding 2.5 was the right thing to do.....I would add back very gradually, I do the same with motor oil, although you don't have that coefficient where the motor oil would change drastically volume-wise based on temp. I actually like to do things 1/4 quart at a time...I feel it doesn't really hurt anything....if using a 1 quart bottle, it's easy to see the marks on the bottle...

p.s. I'm thinking that if you have now added 1 more quart, you've added 3.5 qts cold, and taken out 3 quarts warm, the assumption here is that the level was low to begin with....this is why the dipstick is nice, you can keep adjusting as you go, and even if you drain some out, you're still in essence exchanging new for old i.e. taking some old out...
