Default '07 SC430 wheels + spacers on LS430

Hello all,

I'm excited to have recently purchased a nice 2002 ls430 and am loving it. It is my first Lexus. German cars up until now. I did a lot of research before buying and was really pleased to find clublexus in that process. What an amazing resource.

I am not especially knowledgeable about working on cars.

My quesrion:
I'm looking to replace my OEM 16" alloy wheels. They are very worn. I picked up some used '07 SC430 wheels (18x8) that I understood I could install using spacers (15mm). Out of curiosity, I tried to install a front wheel without spacers. The caliper was too big and it contacted the wheel. The need for spacers was confirmed.

I have read a lot about the safety concerns surrounding spacers. Seems everyone has a different opinion.

I would love to hear opinions about what risks installing this specific setup, 18x8 SC wheels with 15mm spacers, would pose to my 2002 LS430. More specifically, is this setup going to cause accelerated wear and tear? If the spacers are of the highest quality, 15mm,and installed properly, am I still risking causing major issues over time?

Thanks for any and all thoughts!

Hey there,

with spacers you need to make sure you either get extended studs and slip on spacers, or spacers that come with pre-installed studs in them. Another thing to consider is not over-tightening them. 75 ft/lb is what I torque my spacers and wheels down to. I personally use Ichiba V2 spacers on my LS430 and used them on my previous SC300 as well for about five years. Some people may argue that the wider track width of the car with spacers will put more abuse on the suspension, but whether that abuse is enough to cause any real damage is in question. I am running 25mm fronts and 20mm rears on my stock 2005's 18s with no known issues. Hope this helps!

I guess I don't understand the concern about the spacers. I take it they are being used because the new wheel's offset isn't large enough to clear the calipers. So by positioning them to clear the calipers I don't see why they would be sticking out significantly further than the stock wheel would be, correct? I suppose if you used some gargantuan spacer you might run into issues...
