Replace valve cover gaskets, cam seals etc
I am very glad to have come upon this post… I am a new guy here, and also live in the ATL area. South side, near Newnan. I have a gentleman's handshake to purchase a 2006 model LS-430, base model. The particular car is a SoCal vehicle all it's life, very low miles (38K), and mostly garage kept. I expect that I will have a few issues pop up that need attention. This forum appears to be the brain trust for all things Lexus. I have a couple of questions for you current owners.
>I plan to have a Lexus dealer do a pre-buy inspection. Anything in particular need specific attention?
>Do any of you GA guys know a good indie mech. on the south side of ATL. I wouldn't mind driving a little ways for excellent, honest, knowledgable mechanic.
>any general tips/advice/what-to-expect from ownership?
This will be my 1st Lexus. Years ago, in college, I had an awesome Toyota Starlet that was near bullet-proof. Wish I still had it. At any rate, I'm very much looking forward to consumating the purchase of this fine vehicle. Hope to get the deal done either the end of the 2nd week of Dec, or beginning of the 3rd week of Dec. The current owner is on a 2nd honeymoon with his wife to Germany, and returns on teh 14th. Thanks in advance. I look forward to being a contributer here, but mostly imposing on he knowledge base for the first several years.

But - Timing belt is a must do - 90k mile recommended interval. My 04 needed the headlight level sensor (under the driverside rear door). I updated all the interior and courtesy lights with LED's. A also updated with a modern head unit -DVD Bluetooth NAV etc.
I'd personally say no there is no MUST do item. Just maintain it as best you can, fluids etc. Drive it!
