What rpm do you typically take the LS up to?
all 3 of our other cars are vastly different (two are sticks), but they all generally change gears at 3000 rpm. I don't think the LS has ever gone up to 3000 (I haven't pushed it). What is a typical rpm at which point it shifts, for you??

It wholelly depends on your acceleration i think. But light to moderate acceleration it does shift at a point below 3000 rpm. Lots of times shifts a few hundred above 2k for me (on a 5sp).
Though WOT reaches redline all the time when i merge on to a freeway.

gotcha...seems to have a lot of torque even at 2000'ish. I just don't want to push it and suddenly the dash lights up like a Christmas tree--I know, that's more apt to happen with German cars, but trying to ease in to the LS....I have gone about 1,000 miles now since I got it, nothing has happened. It's just like my buddy said, a sofa on wheels. As soon as I got into my wife's GM SUV, the seats felt so hard, and they aren't, they're soft compared to my BMW which has sport seats! It's all relative...
other thing is I still don't have my plates, and once I do, I need to do the emissions testing (bought the car in another state). Don't want anything to cause the check engine to turn on which is an automatic fail....

Driving an 01-03 Base, generally let it automatically shift which seems to be around 2,200 under moderate acceleration. At least for me, the 5 didn't really inspire manual shifting. Didn't even try until I'd owned the car for more than a year. Driving an 04-06 Sports, yeah auto sometimes but manual upshifts at 3k (moderate) or 5k (hard acceleration). LS drivetrain reliability is legendary. Wonder if more aggressive driving will have an effect? Since I drive my LS less than 5k/yr, not too worried. Tundra has the same motor (and trans?) and they also last forever.

You don't need to be afraid to push these cars or take them to WOT. On normal driving the shift points are usually 2500 to 3k rpm. But the occasional full throttle pass to redline won't hurt anything. Helps clear out carbon and open up the motor. It's a 300hp v8 put it to work every once in awhile.

I keep a 2002, with sport suspension, in CA. Bought it from an older lady friend and doubt if it had ever seen 90 MPH in its 65,000 miles.
Needed to go to Houston for a couple of months and decided to beat on the LS the whole way. Drove about 80 MPH all the way to El Paso, TX where the posted speed goes to 80. To me that means 90-95 which I did all the way to San Antonio. From there it was 75-80 to Houston.
Car loved it and seems to run much better. Just need to beat on them once in a while. 95 MPH is about 2700 RPM. Not even pushing it.

And the UZ series engines are exceptionally over-engineered, much like the JZ series. They can take a proper hiding.
I'm a bit of a mongrel to be honest, 75% of the time I don't often take it past 2500 because its scary watching the fuel gauge drop before my eyes, but the other times I've got that 3UZ howling and sometimes lighting up the inside wheel with the garbage tyres that are on the back (not intentionally of course, I'd prefer not to have a Sustained Loss of Traction charge to my name)

I am and always have been a very agressive driver (deal with rt 95 in new england traffic, you will know why), my wife hates when i drive. My car has 233,000 miles on it, and it still runs great, I have owned the car from 65K...2nd owner.
Most cars would not handle the way I drive with these miles on it. Crap when I was 17, my first car was a little Chevy 4 cylinder car(junk in the 80's but anway)... I blew the motor in it 4 times (at the time it was $350 to rebuild it, and a lot cheaper than buying a new car)....

Driving in Boston is the ultimate video game. Intelligent aggressive is a good description. Not sure I'd want to do it in an LS because of car size. Narrow roads, tight on/off ramps, incomprehensible intersections. Car of choice for back there is my brother's 2005 Mustang GT (V8, 5 speed). For CA, an LS is perfect for fast freeway and long miles.
