Thanks, for some reason I thought Bluetooth capabilities were built in, I don't need it, certainly won't pay $200 extra for it, would have been convenient for the odd occasion though.

I was told we (LS430 owners) couldn't have video, I think that was earlier in this thread, which was strange because I was sure I've seen video working on the navigation screen before, then I did some searching and found the ultimate lock pick device.

Has anyone used the ultimate lock pick in conjunction with the MML?

I'm surprised the VAIS has so many issues, I was assured the wire harness that came with it was top notch and wasn't imported.

And you're telling me it doesn't have Bluetooth despite being how much money?
Just because something is really expensive, don't automatically assume it's the best.

Np!

I think youre looking for a thread like this one? Its not an EXACT match but the fellow is using a vais product with the lockpick so maybe its helpful.

I cant offer any personal opinion on the lockpick but ive been looking into this as a video solution... mainly for the backup camera interface in my 03, it also features 2 inputs that go to the nav screen (one is backup cam)

Whats the going price on the lockpick? The navtool is difficult to find under $200

I didn't want to buy the cheapest unit and then expect clublexus members to assist me with any issues. I asked, I was told that all the recommendations were good, but, the Vais Tech was the more expensive option.
One member in particular seemed to believe that the components were built to a higher quality and that the software could be of a higher quality also.
So I spent the extra, just to be sure. I paid about 20% extra over market value for my LS because it was a solid car with good history and very neat. I could have bought a 460 for similar money but after much research I was convinced the '04 430 was better than the '07 460 I was looking at.
I'm that kind of guy, I pay extra, get the good stuff, look after my toys very well and expect them to do what I was told I was paying for.

I've been contacted by private message by a VaisTech rep and apparently my unit is old, so may require firmware to fix it.
I've asked what it is I have to do to download and install the firmware and I'm now thankful I haven't competed the install completely and still have the unit temporarily in the glove box, not behind the dash somewhere!

I did read those threads, thanks, they are helpful, but again, no install thread specific to my vehicle, there seems to be even less people installing that particular device than the MML units.
I may have to purchase and take another punt installing, if I do, I'll have another thread with install and operational images as I did with the MML.

I ended up putting the unit in the glove box which I'm not happy about as it wasn't going to fit under the CD stacker. I really needed the space in the glove compartment

I've just come home from work and I've experienced many minor issues already. My trip home is long and boring, so I have plenty of time to fiddle with the new toy.
For one, the volume **** has been intermittently lazy, I'd turn the volume up and it would take a while to respond and then it was way too high and just frustrating, it did it three times and hasn't since.

The I agree button (which I haven't bypassed yet) takes quite a few seconds (about 10) to disappear when selected as evidenced by the button here in green:

This happened immediately after clicking I agree:

For some reason I can't get Artist information to display all the time:

YouTube videos either show YouTube as the artist name and song which is okay, but a couple of times it's chosen the name of a random song:

This time the artist name is working:

The rear screen and buttons seem to work well:

"The I agree button (which I haven't bypassed yet) takes quite a few seconds (about 10) to disappear when selected as evidenced by the button here in green."
The few seconds delay for the map screen to appear (without having to press the "I Agree" button) is exactly how the factory Nav system in later model Toyota vehicles operate.

"This happened immediately after clicking I agree:"
I've never had this issue, except when the factory Gen 2/3 Nav player (which plays the Nav DVD - located in the trunk well) failed on my '01 and I replaced it.

"For some reason I can't get Artist information to display all the time:"
This is due to how/what you downloaded for the song. If you downloaded artist info, it will show on the screen, if not, it won't.

"YouTube videos either show YouTube as the artist name and song which is okay, but a couple of times it's chosen the name of a random song: This time the artist name is working:"
Again, it will only display what your music source provides.

As far as I know, VAIS doesn't have a headphone jack for these models, which is odd since it's such a simple feature that most of the low-cost units offer. It also doesn't make it future proof in the coming years.
If old technology is your preference, you'd have to splurge for a USB-to-mini plug wire to convert VAIS to connect to headphone jack > $0.99

Mini-plug headphone jack is not "future proof." The future is sans mini-plug head phone jack!

There is no difference in functionality. According to the compatibility chart that came with all 4 of my MMLs:

MML-T1 is compatible with 2004 - '06 LS430
MML-L1 is compatible with 2001 - '03 LS430

If any doubt, check directly with Vais for verification.

Good point. Damian has a '04 and bought the L-1 version of the MML. According to the Vais compatibility chart, the T-1 is the correct model for '04. Maybe that's why he experienced issues.

That's the reason for my post and clarification. I don't want the issues that he's having.

My 4th install of the MML was in my '05 a few months ago and it was the T1 model. Works fine.
