Advice needed - transmission and air suspension issues.
Hi guys. I need some advice. My 01 UL with 121500 miles is having issues. The transmission has not been shifting great, I've done the drain and fill three times and it's not perfect. Then yesterday the drivers side front air suspension failed. The car will raise itself up upon start up but it rides rough. I knew the air suspension was gonna be an issue, just hoping it would last longer. I owe 5500 on this car, and to have the air suspension replaced to springs its gonna cost 2-2500 bucks here. What would you do? I know I can sell it for what I owe on it. I'm leery to put this much money into this car. I'd probably go buy another LS, just one without air suspension!

Thank you. I'm considering replacing the air shock with a used one to tide me over. Is there a way to make the air compressor always run? It will raise the damaged shock slowly but when it stops it just drops

I know. Just thinking through this. It's weird because when I turn the car on, it takes several minutes for the air compressor to engage. If I switch it HI, nothing happens. Something electrical here?

I'd likely take it to a shop for a full transmission flush since the trans is not shifting correctly. Normally a power flush is to be avoided but since the trans is already acting up a full flush may actually help. Very little downside at this point.
Then consider keeping and converting to spring suspension or selling it and buy a well maintained newer model year non UL.

i'd start checking craigslist for a used air shock, right and left front are same part number if I remember correctly. Should be able to find one for $200 max. Installation is not that hard to do DIY, or pay somebody maybe $100???
your air suspension is far superior to the spring alternatives and for the most part is no more problematic than regular shocks, its just that repairing with new parts from dealer is prohibitive.

So when my transmission started acting funny and not shifting as it should, I cleaned out the MAF and Throttle Body. That seemed to clear up alot of the lag for me. But with the LS Air Suspension I honestly couldnt be happier. Bought my car at 165k, with original Air Struts. I immediately put the ASC680 in and have been riding low everysince. Now at 230K, yet to have issues. Not every case is the same though. But could have just been a bad pothole or something and blew the bag out.
