Default Light moves upward when turning on headlight

Does anyone know why when you turn on your headlights, the light moves upwards? Is there a reason why it does this? Is there a moving part in the headlight assembly? It does this on both my 01 LS430 and 04 RX330 AWD which doesnt have AFS. Its always been a mystery to me.

Yes, this is normal for the LS430.

Lights adjust themselves so they don't shine too high blinding other drivers.

They are self-leveling headlights, If you had 3 dead bodies in the trunk vs just one, the lights would adjust for the weight difference.

I had purchased an Aftermarket headlight replacement for the RX since it is still hazy/foggy after sanding and polishing. Would the self leveling function still work using an aftermarket headlight? I didnt know if there are moving parts in the factory headlight assembly.

Make sure the after market housing is compatible with the OEM system. If not, you will have a blinking "AFS" indicator all the time. You may want to try restoring the headlight housing before replacing it. There has been some good results from folks who have done this. It's also cheaper.

I had attempted to restore the headlight but couldnt remove green tint due to UV damage. And it still turned out hazy. I saw on another post I cold bake both headlights and put the new clear lens on the factory housing but that is more effort that I want to spend.

If im not mistaken, the green tint is permanent and also on the inside on the housing so that will ot be coming off. Did you do the sanding/polish method?

I sanded, polished, and use a clear coat spray. The UV damage is permanent. My new headlight housing are Eagle Eyes made in Taiwan. Don't know if self levelin will work with these
