Windshield Replacement Question
My local Lexus dealer doesn't do windshields, they farm it out to JN Phillips.
Phillips installed an aftermarket windshield in my LS today. Apparently my insurance company wouldn't cover the cost of OEM glass so I ended up with Plinkinton glass.
Workman ship was good just a lot of finger prints all over the car.
Total cost for parts and labor $550. Thank you insurance company!

Not applicable to the OP's LS430 but if you have a leased vehicle and return it with non-OEM
wheels, radio, windshield or other glass you will get dinged (pun intended) for the re-replacement
back to OEM parts.

I went with Pilkington too. Great glass...shocking how much clearer it is without all the pitting.
Had to have it redone once though because the first installer was incompetent, thought he could do it in my parking lot....right hah. Didnt put in the rain sensor tape or the chrome moulding on top either. Called my Lexus dealer and they referred me to a great shop (i actually went to his shop) that did it for like 250 i want to say. I bought the chrome moulding online.

I have had 2 Pilkington's installed and both are fine aftermarket glass. I recommend the installer pay close attention to the gaps at the top left and right of the windshield. Ask them to fill these gaps. This will reduce wind noise. More so then the OEM install. My current setup is the most quiet the car has ever been because of filling these areas.
If your not watching you have no idea if they are doing a great job. A bad install person can gouge up the body, pinch weld etc. I've seen windshields removed at wrecking yards that were done with perfection, not a scratch on the body, that's the type of guy you need doing windshield replacements. How did the guy remove the one in the photo? What did he cut the urethane with ?
I reluctantly had to accept Pinkington glass for my windshield replacement last year. Does not compare to original glass. When you have to view into the sun it looks like it has been sandblasted! I drive only on paved roads and never on dirt or gravel roads. The installer paid $100 for the new glass and the insurance paid him $300 for the job. He did install OEM chrome strip at the top of the glass. I watched the entire installation and he did a perfect installation. Only problem was the cheap glass. Always get OEM glass if at all possible. My insurance just plain refused to supply OEM glass.
