Well, let me give you a couple of recent data points...
I have an 04 with 91K miles. I listed it on CL three weeks ago for $14K. Since that time I haven't gotten so much as a nibble. For grins, I took it to the local Lexus dealer to see what they would give me for the car, selling it to them outright. Their offer to me (and this car is in great shape) was $11K.
Next, I went to CarMax, thinking they may do better. I was shocked to find that they only offered me $9K.
Now, I fully understand the dealers are going to give you wholesale, but I was still saddened by how little these cars command, giving that this thing originally cost $60K new. Maybe I'll try Autotrader...
Anyway, with your car over 200K, I would think you are going to have to be very patient in finding someone to buy at at $9K. Personally, I wouldn't touch it, but that is just me.
My 04 premium with 200k sat on the lot for 2 years after I traded it in bet they would take 6k. Might still be there. The self leveling head light part a few hundred bucks was out chromes getting pretty effected by winter.
Not that it's a direct data point, but tonight I bought this darn nice '01 LS with 134k for $6600 from a Lexus dealership in Northern California. Not a speck of rust, new tires, everything seems to work but steering tilt.

Great info here even though i don't like reading some of it. Hah. I had the timing belt replaced at the dealership last week. The old belt still looked good overall, but at least I have proof it's been replaced now. So far I've turned down $8k. The lowest I would take would be $8500. I guess it's about principle, I just can't bring myself to sell the car less than the lowest KBB private party value. Maybe I just don't want to part with the car subconsciously.

That definitely sounds like a steal.
It's unfortunate for current owners, but these cars are going to be priced like the LS400s are now in a few years.
I'll probably drive the wheels off of mine because I can't ever see myself parting with my car for something like $6,000 a couple years from now. That's like the sales tax on a new luxury car.

Exactly where i am with my LS. and theyre still such great cars. have you thought of ditching the econo box and keeping the LS op?
There was 03 LS430 on craigslist with 85k miles near me but it didn't even last a few hours as it was listed for $6k. No doubt that was a steal. Even had a fresh belt service.
wow that is a good deal. truly these LSs are one of the best kept secrets out there....very hard to find more luxury, more reliability, more drivability for less money.

Actually I recently purchased the Honda a couple months ago. It's a 2008 Si coupe with the manual transmission. I actually did not think I would drive the Honda much more than the LS but wow those little 8th gen. Si coupes are something else for a FWD vehicle. Anyway, the plan was to buy a cheap mechanically and electrically simple car and unload the LS.
The LS430s are great cars. I've always admired the 04-06 LS430 sport but I think I may hold off on land yachts for awhile. After purchasing a home with a garage, my next goal will be to purchase an NSX. That's one of my ultimate 'bucket list' cars and they're surprisingly affordable.
So I bit the bullet and had the timing belt replaced recently at Lexus to aid in selling the car. Cost me almost $500 but the water pump was left in to save some cash. It looked good though. I even took a pic while it was in the shop just for my own reference. The old belt is pictured, likely the same belt from around 100k. It probably wouldn't have snapped but safer is better.
Replacing the timing belt seemed to have done the trick in selling the car (along with a price decrease) I'll be letting her go for $8100 today to a gentleman that lives a few hours away. Far less than I would have liked but you win some and you lose some. If I had it my way, I'd take the LS430 headlights and keep them for my future NSX. I will miss the headlights. Anyway, this won't be my last Lexus, I'm sure I'll be back on the forums someday.
I love my 430, but I would definitely ditch it for an NSX. Finding an NSX affordable is funny, since they have been steadily increasing in price the last five years.
Oops! By 'affordable' in my mind I was comparing it to the average price of brand new cars. Albeit different class vehicles.. I think it's 'safe money' since it has already depreciated.
So it looks like I still have the LS, the guy called me and said he found at 01' with 180k miles for $4400. On the plus side I'm still here with you guys lol.
yeah, theres a yellow NSX-R about 8 hours away from me on auto trader for like 92k. insane money for some of those. happy you got a sale together dude!
